Stiff Gear Legs & Bracket Corrosion

Post by c170ragwing »

My '48 Ragwing is currently getting an upgrade to the landing gear and will handle much better in crosswinds with the stiffer "Lady Legs" I purchased from XPModifications. Tom Anderson was a great help in locating and inspecting these legs for me. They are on the web at http://www.xpmods.com and provide a great service.

During the removal of the left gear I discovered corrosion in the outer gear bracket that can not be seen with the gear attached. This led to calling Steve and Norma Knopp at PPONK Aviation and in just a few hours they were shipping me the new brackets. They are 100% better than the original. I also ordered the beef-up kit which I am convinced everyone needs. PPONK is a top notch manufacture of these parts and they offer a club discount too. I highly recommend checking your gear attachments if you are not sure. Corrosion is likely! See the website at http://www.pponk.com

It's great to know that such service is available for these great old airplanes which need lots of help to keep them flying. Thanks Tom Anderson and Steve Knopp! You are a credit to all of General Aviation!!! :D
