For further reading here’s an article from AOPA and from Air Facts.
Cecilia Henderson of Brittain Industries, Inc. responded to my request for information regarding their autopilot for the C-170. She wrote, "Brittain does still hold STC SA4-1062 however we are currently not operational. We closed our facilities following the death of our owner and subsequently sold the company. I am working with the new owners now to re-open the company but have no definite timeline for completion. ... ."
