AD on Slick mags

Post by lowNslow »

Just got this off of AvWeb:

SLICK MAGNETO, AIR TRACTOR ADS WIDENED: The FAA will order owners of
airplanes with Continental C-125 and C-145 engines with certain Slick
Magnetos to have the mags inspected sooner rather than later. Those
engines were skipped in an Airworthiness Directive (AD) that went out
two years ago. A pin in the mag can come loose and fall into the gear
train, sometimes with disastrous results. The AD will be in effect July
12, but why wait.

So you know exactly what the AD will be refering to and how to sign it off.
So you don't have to do it again.

You had said "why wait" which I took to mean that you thought you should do the current AD. I just meant you should wait untill the AD is out and offical before you do it. The new one may have changes from the old AD. Guess I made that about as clear as some of these ADs.

The full text of the AD can be downloaded from the FAA Aircraft Certification website. The URL is:

http://av-info.faa.gov/ad/AD.htm

Click on the "AD Final Rules(Current ADs)" hyperlink for other than Emergency ADs. On the search menu on the left, click on "New ADs". This will take you to the latest and greatest the FAA has in store for us  . You can also check out new NPRMs from the previous AD site. Happy Hunting!

Received the AD in the mail. Looks like it only applies to magnetos with serial numbers produced in 1999.

Bill, you're sharper than me,I guess. Is that what the "99" first 2 digits of the Slick s/n's mean? Mine are "00"'s,must be made in 2000.
If anyone hasn't yet recieved the AD in the mail (I got mine today),you probably will soon. But here's what it sez,in a nutshell.
If you have Slick model 6314,6324,or 6364 mag(s) with s/n between 99110001 & 9912999,you're screwed!
Otherwise you're cool.
