'48 Cabin Heat

My '48 has very poor Cabin heat due to crimped scat tube between firewall and vent. Has anyone tried removing this scat tube and letting the warm air go where it will? Any reason not to try this?

What serial number is your 170? What item number in either Fig 46 or 47 of the IPC (Illustrated Parts Cat) is the problem you’re discussing?

Reading the first and last entry
here it appears that removing the ducting aft of the firewall doesn't help with heating on your '48. I would suggest getting a field approval (if your IA doesn't consider it a minor alteration) to convert to the late B model heater system. Lots written about that on this forum.

Serial no 18109 . Figure 46. There was the wrong size scat tube (too large) with wire removed and it was kinked. We fixed it with a piece of 2" scat today. I will see how it works, next time I fly. What a cramped place to try to work.
Thanks for your reply
