8 day clock

Post by rickyricky2 »

Hi All
My 8 day clock can not be wound.
Anybody know where to have it repaired?
I see online I can get a used one for about 100 dollars, but I don't know how worn it would be.
Thommen on the face.
Wakmann Watch Co on the rear case.

Thanks

The most common problem is overwinding. Will it run for a little while when you tap on it? If so, keep tapping on it to make it run and don't wind it.

My old original wind-up clock in the 170 would only work when the engine was running. I would set it as part of the run-up and it would keep good time the entire flight. It would stop sometime after shut down. I never had to wind it very often. I guess there was enough internal drag it needed the engine vibration to keep running. :) :) :)

Historic answered my inquiry... They are not accepting new work until after the new year.

My understanding is that most of these are basically pocket-watch movements. If you have a good independent watchmaker in your area, you might try him.

I have had instruments repaired by Century Instrument in Wichita. http://www.centuryinstruments.net. An 8-Day clock is $355 outright, $250 Exchange, $180 to repair yours, Core Charge is $105.
When Dad filled out the panel in the 170 back in about 1952, he got his instruments at Century.
