Does anyone have a source for the Continental C-145 / O-300 carburetor air box part #530852? I am in need of one and have found the new replacement for this part to be very light as compared to the one from Continental. EBAY has a couple of rough ones that look to be a potential project to make airworthy. Does anyone still have these? They were used on the early 172's so I would have thought availability wouldn't be a problem with the prices that use to be quoted. I prefer the heaver design and the fact that they are FMA/PMA approved.

Thanks, Steve Grimsley

EBAY is the best bet for this hard to find item. There were two there, one good and one repairable. I purchased both. Steve Grimsley #3204

A few years ago I found a new-old-stock 0530852 airbox in the Aero-Mart at OSH. It ended up in Miles' airplane.

On this subject, .... it used to be that the aftermarket air boxes were direct copies of the OEM, but it’s. Been recently reported to me that the ones at WagAero, etc are now a “light-weight” version of lighter-gauge metal and not as good quality.

Credit Del. He put out the request, I was just lucky to find it.

This is another update on this part. Suddenly Fresno Airparts listed this original part in the section for the C145/O300 engine. I found this just a couple of weeks ago and at first wasn't going to buy one as I had two used ones purchased off of Ebay. After installing my best used carb heat box I discovered that it flexed some because part of the weld where the box attaches to the upper mounting bracket had broken loose. It is functional for now but will need attention later. After flying my airplane with the rebuilt engine I broke down and ordered the new box from Fresno. It was $975. When it arrived I saw that it was the same one photographed on Fresno's webpage. Curious to see if it was their only one I checked the website again and it is still listed but now the price is $1275. The one I received is an original Continental #530852 carb heat in the original package. Penciled on the Continental cardboard box is $334.75 1990, $362.63 1991, and $408.16 1993 so this is new old stock part with some of it's price history. Now that I finally have one of these new I guess I will get the other two repair welded and put one them in the auction at the 170 Convention. It was an expensive and roundabout way of getting what I wanted all along for my airplane but at least I reached the finish line and before the $300 price jump.
