Miles, did you fab all the hanger hardware and if so did you make a bill of materials?

If the pipes come bare, we'll all need the info.

Richard, I'm pretty sure the kit will come with hanging hardware, but Pat's design. As you know there where two designs of these pipes, Behnam and Bartone. Many liked Bartone pipe bends and Behnam hanging method and hardware or visa versa. Of course neither man would change their design to the other admitting one was better than the other.

The STC paper you will get however is Behnam's as Pat bought it. So maybe the kit will include Behnam style hangers.

Richard, you may be the first to know and tell us exactly what arrives.

This thread has the information about mounting Bartone pipes, including the two mounting methods Bruce mentioned.
http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... lit=Benham
It also includes a download I posted of a 337 with the drawing and bill of materials of the Benham mount, the one Miles used. There is also a photo of a drawing from a 337 of the hardware for a firewall mount, Bartone's original method.

Thanks Bruce and Gene
I didn’t realize Pat bought John’s STC. I was at the auction at Benham’s hangar but didn’t know who got the STC.
I’ll post what comes with the pipes, hopefully it will be complete per the STC.

Pat would sell a lot more of these pipes if he could add the O-300 powered C-172’s on another STC. Probably not much chance of that happening with the FAA these days. It is interesting to see what I’m sure is a typo on the STC where it lists the 172. The 172 has a type certificate number of 3A12 so should not be listed on a supplemental type certificate for type certificate A-799 — the 170 series.

Richard, at Benham’s auction do you have any idea who bought the STC for the modified door latch ... or any idea who might know who bought it? Maybe one of John’s children?

Gary, our own engine STC is for the 170 and the 172. All aircraft on an STC are not restricted to the same TCDS. many STCs or for multiple aircraft types and even manufacturers.

Gary I know who has the door latch STC. But this is off topic, I'll pm you.

Bruce,
You're right. I was looking at Benham's STC for the door latch and he has a seperate STC for the 170, 172, 175, 180, and 182 and incorrectly assumed one needed a seperate STC for each TC. Not sure why he didn't get an Approved Model List (AML) like the Association got for the O-300 engine STC. In that case it might be less work for Pat to get the 172 added to the existing STC he has for the extended exhaust pipes -- a supplement to the supplement. Or would the nosewheel steering hardware on the 172 interfere with the pipes?

It’s been a long time since I’ve looked under the cowl of a 172 but I bet you’re right.

I talked to Pat yesterday (2/28/19) as a follow-up to an email expressing interest. He told me they have a shipment coming from west coast with the pipe material and they have placed a "half order" to be built, expecting them to be done in 4 weeks or so. I asked what a half order is and he said 40 sets. I asked how many firm orders he had in hand as of yesterday and he said around 10. He did confirm the STC would be included...I did not think to ask about the mounting provisions as I had not completely read this and other threads before I called.

To him, an order is "check in hand", not an email expressing interest, which is fair enough. I'm going assume the best and send him a $688 check today.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been offline a few days.

My original set (2006) was from John Benham and came with all the attach hardware. After the right side was damaged at Creve Coeur, I ordered another set from Pat and had them drop shipped to Mountain Airframe. You might ask Del what hardware the set from Pat came with. Unexpectedly, the pipes themselves were the Benham variety.

I called Pat and Sybil's number this morning to place an order for a set, and received their voice mail and left a message requesting a call back. I will ask Pat to confirm what hardware is included in the kit, and will post an update on here after confirming. I will need a couple of exhaust hole plates , so Bruce I will send you a message. Mike
I just spoke to Pat Bartone a few minutes ago morning March 1st and had a good conversation. I hope I have this right in that Pat said that hardware is not part of the kit, and the pipes use the existing top clamps. The option is left to the aircraft owner if they want to use Aluminum or Stainless for the hanger material etc. The STC is included , and a diagram. He mentioned the fabricator is looking at a 4-6 week availability date. Whoever is next talking to Pat please confirm this again. Mike

I received my Bartone exhaust extensions last week. I was able to get down to the hangar this last weekend and put them up next to the old exhaust and check if they will clear the gascolater and other fire all items. I need to collect the hardware to install them. Of course mine will be a little different than most as it is for the IO 360.

My set of Extensions are to be mailed out this week, and I'm looking forward to installing them. Jim, what arrived with your set? My understanding was buyers receive a set of extensions, the STC, and instructions on installing. What hardware configuration is set out in the paperwork? If you can post a couple of pics of the extensions when they are installed with hardware. Thanks Mike

Just saw this question.

I can check my paperwork when I get home from convention. Remind me if you haven’t heard in about a week. Or, you can call Del Lehmann at Mountain Airframe and ask.
