Magneto replacement ideas?

Post by oldtrucksrule »

Hello all, I have a 1948 C170. I currently have the motor off for overhaul. The Bendix mags are shot and they're very corroded in the bearing area, he thinks I may lose the core money as well. We were quoted 2,604.20 + $500 core charge for slick mags. I was hoping someone might have a better / less expensive solution to this. Thoughts?

Oldtrucksrule, that seems high. I paid $725 a piece plus cores for rebuilt Bendix mags from Quality Aircraft Accessories in Tulsa, OK last year. Try giving them a call (918) 835-6948. You can also find them on the Internet.

Chief Aircraft has the Slick magneto "kits" for the C145/O-300 for $2619 that includes new mags, new harness and new spark plugs. Still have the $500 core charge but it doesn't hurt to send yours in and see what happens.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into the options. I guess the sticker shock is just going to have to rub off.
