Can anyone recommend a good 170b A&P for prebuy and possibly annual near Springfield? Not had an annual for 8 years. Owner says he pulled prob through during this time but engine has not run. About 600 hrs since major

Dsc45shooter (wish I knew what that meant) Aryana nailed it. At the end of the process, you'll know the plane's true cost and it will be ready to fly. Tons of Good luck to you with it.

Doublestar .45 pistol shooter. Haha. I used to compete in single stack 1911 competitions. But anyway, can anyone recommend a good mech for annual then?

What's the asking price? pre buy don't mean squat!

If you can’t find anyone local to do your ANNUAL and you can fly the plane on a ferry permit, Barron Aviation in Perry, MO, is primarily a C-195 shop but they have also restored an Oshkosh winning C-170B.

Re: Need prebuy ap near Springfield, Missouri
Here's a scenario for you:
A so-called "pre-buy" will cost you $400-$700 from any good shop.
A full-blown Annual Inspection will cost you $750-$1200 from a good shop.
Neither will make any "repairs"...but will be for inspection only. After either inspection you will finalize your purchase or rejection with the seller, having determined who will pay for what and how much, including repairs.
The first inspection has no legal definition or specification, does not address legal-airworthiness, and will provide you with absolutely no recourse should expensive non-airworthy items requiring repairs be subsequently discovered after you own the thing.
The Annual Inspection determines airworthiness and compliance both by regulation and civil-statute, and will carry legal-implications for the inspector and seller if non-airworthy items exist when the airplane is "approved for return to service." The difference in price of the two inspections is far less than the cost of exposure to which a buyer is subjected should the airplane later prove unairworthy. And the second inspection is good for one full year. The first inspection is no longer valid the minute the airplane changes hands.
