Hi All! Recently had to remove landing gear on my 170A and discovered that my right outboard gear bracket had severe corrosion, so I ordered new one from P-Ponk, I have the old bracket disconnected from the gearbox but have not figured out how to remove it from the gearbox, do I have to remove the belly skin from the gearbox area and slide the bracket out through the bottom or is there a Nother way?
Thanks in advance for your help
John

Re: Outboard landing gear bracket
I removed enough rivets from the belly band to get it out the bottom.
PPonk verbally told me that most people remove part of the floor, and then splice the floor panel, but my mechanic with IA did not approve of that method. (I had no reason to argue with my IA!)

I would love to know why the belly skin was the preferred piece to remove instead of the floor . Hope the rest of the fuselage was supported .

My recollection is that he did not believe that he had a sufficient basis of approval for the modification of splicing the floor panel. We thought removing some of the belly band rivets was easier than removing the entire floor.
And yes, the fuselage was well supported!

I've not done this job myself but I'll guess to get the outer gear leg support out, the lower rivets to the bottom strap are fairly easy to get to. I just posted this and then saw the post above. I've removed the fuselage skins forward of the centre box and those were not too bad.

Here’s how Beegles Aircraft in Colorado does it.
