Control Yoke Interchange

Post by prairiechicken »

Not sure if this has been covered in another thread or not;
Are the control yokes from a C140 interchangeable with a C170? Somewhere along the life of my '51 A model, the yokes have been replaced with the ram horn style. I'm partial to the appearance of the original style yoke, and have the opportunity to buy a pair from a 140. Thanks in advance!

If you look up the respective parts manuals you can check and see if they use the same p/n's.

The control wheels themselves are the same. The control tube is shorter in the 140 so no, they are not interchangeable. However, you can remove the wheels from the 140 tube and reattach them to 170 tubes. The rivits are available but expensive. Bolts can be used but are ugly.

Bright/Shiney ( stainless) structural screws are prettier than those plain gray-steel original rivets, IMO. (They're certainly a lot cheaper!)
