Trying to figure out the original strut color can’t seem to find anything specific to the struts only gear and end ribs.

The photos of original schemes appear to support the view that the struts were painted the same color grey as the landing gear. (Click on photos to enlarge them.)

I looked at pictures to refresh my memory but photos are just to hard to tell. I'd send Bill Kelsall from Pa. a email and ask. He has an original polished '48. I seem to remember them being natural like the rest of the fuselage.

They rust if not painted.

C170 struts are steel, C170A and C170B struts are aluminum.

Yep.... and for not posting in the correct thread...???

(Your excuse doesn't "hold water" anyway since I have plenty of extra beds and live in the next county.)

I am sure the original color on raging struts would be the same as the landing gear as they were both steel. There is a good chance that you might find traces of the original color if you were to remove the gear legs from the fuselage. I found the original color in the inside. Bill K
