Cleveland 40-97A Wheel Assy

Since we're talking a lot about wheels lately... What are the correct grease seal part numbers for the 40-97A 6.00 x 6 wheel?

Aircraft Spruce has one link that references the felt seals (154-0300 & 154-1300), and in another link shows the molded seals (154-12000 & 154-12400). Aviall shows the felt seals, as does Skygeek.

The latest Cleveland catalog, dated 12/31/16, shows the molded seals only with one ring seal (153-00300). Are either versions acceptable? Are the molded seals better?

Was there a change in grease seal parts over the years for the -97A? I have the felt seals, and they're getting kind of crusty, so I'm planning to replace them all in hopes of eliminating a squeaky wheel.

Spoke with Cleveland tech services, they are recommending replacement of the felt seals with the molded grease seals.

How slow is progress. Moulded seals have been around for the last 30 odd years in the marine industry , [and other industries] but why have we kept some of the old technology ? I can remember many years ago when cessna introduced wet tanks [no bladder or internal metal tank] I was at a conference with CASA [ it had a different name those days ] and other industry stake holders when this method of fuel containment was discussed. “NO way are we going to let these aircraft into the country or fly here” was the out cry , OMG if a crack occurred in a wing or a aircraft accident it would be a instant fire ball.
The excuses keep coming . Then some bright spark then informed the group there are already aircraft on the register with wet wings . Airliners , and alist of GA aircraft . BUt they are airliners , was the reply . I piped up and said , Pilatus Porter has a wet wing .Their reply isn’t printable . So the world isn’t flat , it could be round .
Thank goodness the computer industry doesn’t have this mind set , we would be still counting stones .

Ahhh. THOSE were the days...

(Would kids these days know what a spindle is?)
