First item on cockpit Check List was radios "OFF" w no explanation.
From this forum learned that turning master switch off and on could send transient voltage "spike" of up to 600 volts throughout the electrical systems. Radios "off" prior to start up and prior to shut down protects.
I just purchased from A/S the ACS diode assembly kit 16050-2.
My contactor is orig 1954 w translucent cover. IPC is no help.
Bruce covered the changing terminology used by Cessna.
How do I install the new diode (60 years late) with the old original translucent contactor cover ?

Re: Install Diode
The A/S the ACS diode assembly kit 16050-2 has a black and a red side. The black side (the cathode) goes to the terminal the negative battery is connected to. The red side (the anode) connects to the small terminal on the other side of the contactor than the terminal the negative battery is attached to which is also the terminal the wire from your master switch connects.

Re: Install Diode
Curious, I looked at the Spruce website graphic of the part just to see what they are offering. If you look at the graphic they (not by mistake) have the install instructions right in the picture.
