1948 strut tie down ring

Post by DuaneShockey »

Looking to buy a used tiedown ring for my ragwing strut. Not the same as a Cessna 172. DuaneShockey 858-278-9676

This probably should be in the Trademart section ... or maybe we need a new category-- "TiradeMart". The prices they are asking online for this eyebolt are outrageous. Your p/n 0422344 (fig. 10-8) appears to be shorter version of the C-170B and C-172 eyebolt, p/n 0523609 which has been revised to p/n 0523613-1. If you can find a 170B/172 eyebolt for cheaper, I would be tempted to get the longer one, thread it further, then cut it to length. Do a pull test on it if concerned about strength. Duane, I'll be going to Faeth Aircraft near Sacramento this next week if you want me to pick one up for you.

Wow! I had no idea these things are going for $260 a pop. What's so special about these?

Gary & Karl, Thanks so much for a fast response. I did look at a tiedown for the later model 172 I saw at a local FBO that was in for annual. It is nothing like my straight threaded shaft piece. If you find one at Sacto, it needs to be 1 3/4 inches of threads to be ideal. Call me on my cell if you find one 858-437-3962 please to tell me how much $$ so I can decide. It's a 5/16 --24 Thx, Duane and I get info easier on e-mail if you like that duaneshockey@outlook.com

Here's what I found in my stash. The bolt portion is slightly over 2" long. Threads are 5/16 X 24. Dia. is .307". It's yours for free if you think it will work or can be modified for your ragwing. If threads are added it should be cad plated and then baked to eliminate hydrogen embrittlement.

Had the same issue and couldn't buy one for a 170a anywhere . Wentworth had some but the struts had to go with them .so a stainless version was found at a marine store and only cost $6 each and it had the rating stamped into it . [2.5 ton] Cessna quoted a unbelievable figure and a lead time which was 6months.

Here's a picture of your p/n 0422344. Here's one on a popular auction site for a more reasonable price. Looks like the right part but would be best to confirm length with seller.
