170B stabilizors

Post by bensmotorworks »

I am in need of a good serviceable 170B vertical and horizontal stabilizer. its a 1956. I am at KFUL in southern California. hopefully we can find some near. I am also looking for new or serviceable 0510000-34 tail wheel spacers (wedge) qty 2. Item #33 figure 25 tail cone assembly. Mine are exfoliating with corrosion.
Thank you guys.

Ben, I'm told the Association owns one or more NOS vertical stabilizers. Last I heard they were in the possession of George Mock in Indiana. George Horn is our parts and maintenance coordinator and there was talk of George M getting them to George H in Texas. Doubt that has ever happened. I'd call George M. first and see if he knows of the where-a-bouts of them and maybe more info on them. George H will likely be involve determining their value.

Welcome Ben!

I'm away from home now but once I return I could try and get some measurements of those wedges if you wanted to try making an owner produced part.

On the wedges, you need to appeal to folks who recently replaced their entire bracket with a new "kit" from Air Repair. The kit comes complete with new wedges and so their old wedges would be surplus. You might also call Air Repair and inquire if they have the wedges separate. Maybe they have some good used laying around.

They wouldn't be hard to make either and that would be my route.
