Mine are installed in the bulkhead beside the upper corner of the seatback on either side. This keeps them out of the way and the wiring goes behind the bulkhead and under the baggage/cabin floor. This allows the headsets to be stored, if desired, on the hatshelf and there are no headset wires for a passenger to get tangled up in while entering or leaving the rear seat.
Has anyone tried any of the new wireless headsets? I haven't read much, but that might be nice, especially for the two front seat occupants.

Here is a picture of my headset jacks installed on the door post, facing aft, just below the armrests which give some protection to the jacks.

pdb, You don't find the headphone jacks rub against the cables that run up and down inside the doorpost?

Bill,

I have not noticed any problems yet (23 years of ownership) and I can hear no rubbing when the ailerons move. I did replace the aileron cables about 10 years ago and there was no problem apparent to my mechanic. However, I will try to examine the jack and the cables and let you know if I see a problem.

Bill,

Before flying yesterday, I moved the ailerons stop to stop while I had my ear very close to the jack to see if there was any sound which would indicate chafing by the aileron cable on the jack or wiring. I could hear none.

I will pull that channel cover during the annual and let you know if I discover any problem.

A previous owner installed the rear headset jacks in the hat rack, just behind each rear seat area. The good part of that is that they are not in the way, per se, except that the hardware hangs down into the baggage compartment slightly underneath the hat rack itself. The wires are underneath the kick- and side-panels and are are out of the way and don't interfere with any of the aircraft structures. In the two years I've owned the plane I have yet to hit them when loading baggage though it is something that could be a problem.

I put my rear seat headphone jacks in the ash trays.
