Hey Bruce-
Good idea!

Maybe George could divide up the posts into stickies titled "$100 Hamburgers, Northeast", "$100 Hamburgers, Southeast", "$100 Hamburgers, Southwest", etc. Or folks from each area could post their own list. Of course I really like your idea of "$100 Hamburgers, Texas" a lot!

What about some $100 hamburger places up in your neck of the woods in the northeast? There was already a thread on "Flying (and eating) out west" back in March or April, 2007.

OK eatin places

Post by dodd »

My 2 cents.
Wiley Post, in OKC. On field, has a really good breakfast and lunch. They close at 2pm.
Ponca City, OK has a place on field, have not been there.
Old military base outside Ardmore, OK at Gene Autry has a place that seems to change hands frequently.
Dalhart, Tx has this tiny 5 booth place. Nice guy runs the FBO there.
Here is a plug for Keith and Fern that run the FBO at Raton, NM.
They will fix you a great burger or pasta salad there.

Taylor, Texas, T74, just northeast of Austin:

Good Mexican food at the south end of the airport at the Best Western Motel.

Louie Mueller's Bar-B-Q in town is arguably the best in Texas. Take the courtesy car in for a great meal. Be sure and try the handmade sausage.

Consistently lowest avgas prices around.

Went over to Heber Springs, Arkansas, yesterday. Traci's cousin's restaraunt (McPhearson's) is 1/4 mile down the road from the airport (HBZ). They'll come get you, their number is in the flight guide. They serve breakfast and dinner daily and supper on fri's / sat's. The noon buffet was great!

Might as well make this my first post! Texas has been covered, I might as well give us OKIE boys a little recognition!

The "Blue Pig", located in the FBO building at KADM (Ardmore Municipal) in OK has some of the best BBQ a round. You'll have to get there at lunchtime on weekdays, because they close up around 2:00 PM. Weekends they are open till I think 8:00PM. We also have a monthly pancake breakfast "fly in" the second Saturday morning of every month, from 7:00AM to 10:00AM.

Bob's BBQ over at KADH (Ada, OK municipal) is within walking distance from the airport, and USED to have really good BBQ, but I have not been there is a couple of years, and I hear mixed opinions on it now.

Duncan, OK (KDUC) has a decent BBQ restaurant right across the street from the airport. I havent tried it yet, but I've heard it's good.

Pauls Valley, OK (KPVJ) has a monthly hamburger lunch "fly in", I believe it's the first Saturday of every month.

If anyone doesnt know, the strip at McGeehee's is open again, and in a bit better condition than in the past.

The FBO at Cushing, OK (KCUH) has a weekly free lunch on Wednesdays... usually Chili, or beans, or something along those lines.

That's all I can think of right this minute, but I may come up with a few more.

Well Bob's in Ada KADA is always good (walking distance, but I think they are closed on Sundays.)

There is a good one at Norman KOUN on field by the tower. They are open late too. (But i think close early one Tues. a month)

My favorite is Breakfast at Cedar Mills 3TO (watch the strange winds transitioning from over the lake to the grass strip) The tree on the south edge of the runway is kinda strange but it won't be an issue.

Springdale AR (ASG) has a great little breakfeast/lunch resturant. Closes at 2:00PM, so don't be late!

Coleman, Texas (KCOM) is a really nice airport south of Abilene with a couple of city-owned courtesy cars available 24/7. It would be a great place for a lunch fly-out. Just outside the airport is a really quaint steak house with an old ranch atmosphere. They close at 2:00pm then reopen at 5:00pm. Good food and reasonable prices. Several other good places in town, another steak house and mexican food.

Just don't park the courtesy cars in front of a bar or liquor store. They are old police cars and keep the customers away!

Randy Long of Long's Aircraft is a great guy, good mechanic, and runs an excellent maintenance shop at the north end of the airport. He knows C-170s and used to have one. If you need any maintenance work done, it's a good shop. Several aircraft owners in Fredericksburg take their planes there for annuals.

If I was to fly in someplace for a drank of likker I certainly cannot think of a better place to do it than Coleman, TX in a 170 and a police cruiser! It beats the scene outside Baghdad liquor stores.

Baghdad car bomb targets alcohol sellers....

How do we know that's 93D? It's not been seen out of it's hangar in donkey's years! And you can't read the tail number, anyways! I think this is a PHOTOSHOP job!

Haven't ever been there but from http://www.100dollarhamburger.com/

The voting is over and the results can now be announced.

For the first time, we are announcing The Best of the Best; the one restaurant that stands above all others. I am delighted to report that The Best of the Best has been one of our top ten for each of the four years that we have run our Best of the Best Survey.

Fellow pilots, you have spoken and told us that the Southern Flyer Diner in Brenham, Texas is The Best of the Best! Congratulations to Jack Hess. Linda Street-Ely will journey to Brenham, Texas from her home in Liberty, Texas (T78) to make the official presentation and hand over the award. A group of Texas aviators will join her for that occasion.

Jack and his wife Janet are first class people and run a good resaurant and airport. I am glad to be based there. I actually drive 45 minutes each way, bypassing CFD and CLL, that says something about what a great airport 11R is. Please post when the award will be presented.
