THAT is what aviation is all about. Thanks for sharing and for bringing a smile to my face this morning.

Re: Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing
I spent some time yesterday cleaning up the yoke bearing brackets and fine-tune sanding the Deltrin bearings (balls). The brackets were coated in some quite resistant grime that I attacked first with solvent (the bracket on the left of the photo has actually been thoroughly soaked and cleaned with s...

Re: Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing
George - last fall, when I was trying to find a source to print the vinyl stickers, I actually looked at that vendor as an option. There are a number of sites like that - all super-easy to use: just upload an image, play with the size, choose a color, and hit "order". Most of the sites had...

Re: Yoke and Yoke Shaft Refinishing
Update on our panel progress: Unfortunately due to this and that (and a bunch of other excuses) I haven't made any substantial progress on the panel overlay. However, I do have an update on the yokes. I made the decision to replace the yoke universal joints this past week due to a concern over the a...

Re: Door latch repair
Older thread here, but I need to express my thanks to the forum members for the wonderful suggestion on how to repair a broken door latch spring. I flew 62C from our home field south of Atlanta to Panama City Beach, FL on Saturday as an excuse to get out of town and buy a new t-shirt. After paying f...

Re: Avionics Upgrade
Highly recommend it, depending upon your rationale. I had a Garmin GTN650 and a Garmin G5 (HSI) installed about a year and a half ago and would do it again in a second. I opted not to install a second comm as the GTN allows for monitoring of a second comm channel and I carry a portable in my flight ...

Re: New Panel Overlay - A Work In Progress
Miles - a quick in-use update for you. I have around 15-ish hours on the new heel plates and they are still working out well. I wouldn't consider that a long-term or heavy-use review, but my initial impressions are that they are going to hold up well. Additionally, while I planned to roll the edges ...

Re: New member , future owner.
Larry - welcome to the group! I've enjoyed watching your videos on Youtube and I look forward to enjoying your contribution to the knowledge-share here. I have nothing of value to add to the fuel gauge vs. fuel sender conversation. My gauges are - I believe - original and tend to bounce around thoug...

Re: 170B door hinges
A couple of months ago I was on the verge of fabricating new hinge pins from a couple of stainless rods (I still had the temporary pins I made from brazing rods in the hinges, from our interior refresh a few years ago, and was getting worried about the softer brass starting to wear), but instead dec...

Re: Family car of the air
When I purchased 62C a little over three years ago I scoured eBay for an original advertisement for the 1950 170A. I quickly located one that had been removed from a flying magazine and after paying a couple of bucks and waiting a couple weeks, it arrived at my door. Before framing it and placing it...

Re: Instrument Panel Tilt (degrees)
Kyle: Update for you. Stopped by the hangar this morning and snapped some photos. First off ... here's the angle of the top horizontal door support while in an at-rest position. Note that along the length it varied by about .5 degree, but from my vantage point it averaged around 11 degrees for my pl...

Re: Instrument Panel Tilt (degrees)
Kyle - the instructions were in the "installation manual". My avionics shop gave me a copy of the install manual when the G5 was installed so that I had a copy of everything. Unfortunately I didn't get out to the airport as expected but still intend on copying down the figures that I used.

Re: Instrument Panel Tilt (degrees)
Kyle - I feel/felt your pain. I had the G5 HSI installed last year in my panel. The HSI - as you know - also allows you to switch over and view the instrument as the artificial horizon (typically in an emergency situation, but you can do it on-demand) and it was never "zeroed-out" by the i...

Re: New Panel Overlay - A Work In Progress
With the leftover .032" aluminum sheeting that my A&P used to fabricate the new bulkhead, I decided to take care of another small project that had bothered me - not a lot, just a little bit - every time I got into 62C. Our beautiful interior contrasted with the old busted-up, battered, ugly...
