Re: Insurance
We have Falcon Insurance out of Kerrville, TX. It went down $100.00 from last year, BUT, they would not do the same hull coverage of $40,000 that we had for quite a few years unless we wrote a long justification as to why it should be covered for that amount. Then they would have to accept our justi...

In the process of replacing the inboard and outboard rudder pedal shaft bearings on our '48 rag wing, serial # 18118. The outboard "single shaft" bearings appear to be fairly easy to replace with the bolts and nuts easily accessible. The inboard "double shaft" bearings have bolt ...

Oilite bearing
Considering replacing the Oilite bearings on the rudder bar for our 1948 170. In the C170 parts manual, page 43, figure 22, item 43. The part number shows them as a 0411548, which crosses to a new number of S1003-43A. Found them online with a minimum purchase quantity of 10. Only need 4. Does anyone...

Re: Tachometer Drive Housing Gasket(s)?
If you are replacing the gasket for the alternator/generator and tach housing, you may want to consider replacing the oil seal for the tach drive, since you will have it off already.

Re: HIGH,HIGH OIL TEMP!!
What dimension of the lip is being measured, the entire lip or just the portion that is angled down and exposed? I can measure when I get back to the hangar, but want to make sure I am measuring the correct portion of the lip. 1948 170, S# 18118.

Headset wire/cable
I have 2 sets of Peltor 7004 headsets that need new wire from the ear cups and the mic. Wiring insulation is cracked and deteriorating. Headsets are still good for general use by occasional passengers. Found that Peltor is no longer in the aviation headset business. Any ideas on where I can obtain t...

Re: C-145-2H Engine Overhaul
If you want to plug the muffler to pressure test, go to a local hardware store or plumbing supply house with your muffler in hand and ask for Econo-Plugs. They are basically a tapered solid rubber plug with a washer on each end and a bolt that runs thru the center and a wing nut on one end. Put the ...
