PROPOSED AD FOR C-172, 182, 206, 207, 210

HI ... I read an article in AOPA (1 FEB by Dan Namowitz) regarding a proposed AD which would require inspection and repair if necessary of the lower area of the forward cabin door post bulkhead due to possible corrosion. Our -170s were not mentioned. Is it not true though that the -170 and -172 airf...

Re: Shunt (auto-reset breaker for T&B and Stall warn)

Greetings ... Re: Whelen Orion LED Nav/ACL (anti-collision/strobe) lights: just talked with another tech rep at Whelen and he told me that a 1 or 2 amp CB for all three Nav lights would be proper with the current wiring. For the ACLs, a 10 amp CB with 16 ga wire (preferred, 18 ga acceptable) would b...

Re: Shunt (auto-reset breaker for T&B and Stall warn)

I agree George ... “wires and fires” are to be taken seriously. In my previous life, we could reset a breaker (other than fuel boost pump) if in flight and the item was needed. If in deck, we had to contact maintenance and let them deal with it. Interesting that Cessna had the auto reset current lim...

Re: Shunt (auto-reset breaker for T&B and Stall warn)

Thanks for the diagram ... interesting ... useful info ... much appreciated. I will pass the word once I figure out how I am going to do the LED interior lights. By the way, this morning I was reading AC 43-13B this morning and found an interesting comment on page 11-15, para 11-50 (b) ... “Automati...

Re: Shunt (auto-reset breaker for T&B and Stall warn)

Hi ... Levi you did what I am now doing. I too have found wires that seem to go nowhere from previous installations and am running those down. I am going to replace the Klixon thermostat with a CB(s) as required. I have hand drawn several electrical "maps." I drew up a list of installed eq...

Re: Shunt

Hi ... I tried to submit a picture of the thermostat ... no joy. That said, I have been referencing both the IPC and the Electrical System manual I got from the Association in ‘07. Interesting ... would really like to know the “why” of the thermostat vs using a standard fuse or better yet, CB. I int...

Re: Shunt

Hi, George ... just got back from the hangar and chasing wires. A few things/questions and would appreciate comments etc ... 1. I mis-wrote regarding the current limiter ... I should have written that the stall warning is what is rated at 15 amps (I think ... trying to read the back of the indicator...

Re: Shunt

I ought to post a few pictures of the fuses I had and their condition ... I think at least some of the wires showed evidence of what I think was excessive heat. I wanted to go with push-pull CBs anyway and the condition of the "bus" wire and fuses convinced me it was worth the effort. I do...

Re: Shunt

Got it ... I was looking at the Electrical System manual while reading replies, specifically the electrical schematic and noted that the turn and bank as well as the stall warning are jointly fed into the breaker. I might add that my main source of information I am using on the wiring project is an ...

Shunt (auto-reset breaker for T&B and Stall warn)

Hi ... redoing some (!) of the wiring on our 54B (N1967C) ... while chasing down wires off of the Safe Flight Stall warning, I noticed one wire goes to what appears to be a shunt mounted in back of the instrument panel in the approximate middle. Any idea of what the shunt is for? I am fabricating a ...

D-SUB tool

Hi ... I am installing a Stratus Appareo transponder and making up the wiring harness. A D-Sub crimping tool from DMC is a little over $300.00 with the pin positioning fixture. On-line there are crimping tools in the $35.00+ range. Keeping in mind you get what you pay for, any thoughts as to whether...

Gascolator filter

Hi ... question. I put fuel into the tanks after several years of sitting. Replaced fuel lines with no leaks and nothing in the way of contaminants. However, the fuel in the gascolator turns a golden color after it sits for several hours. I pulled the gascolator filter/screen and cleaned it. The bas...

Re: Rapco Belt Driven Pump

Update ... I decided to maintain the current installation and hope I have a vacuum pump that is still functional and will remain functional until I can go all electric. I like the Dynon D10A (AOA available option and I like the display better ... similar in some respects to the the Mad Dog I used to...

Hi ... anyone know where to buy a return spring for (in my case) a right hand door latch ... '54B ... N1967C, ser: 26112. I went to open the door today and felt the spring go bye bye. Thanks, R/Lee PS Work on the airplane proceeding well. Several STCs are being incorporated. Engine work just about c...
