You'll have to go to the "Publications" tab to get to SOP's.

Looking at planning a trip to explore the Idaho backcountry, anyone fly into Johnson Creek with the stock O300? Not to worried so much about gettin in, it’s getting out that has me a little concerned. I've been into Johnson Crk. several times over the past 30 years with my 170B. I do have a climb p...

Re: Basic empty weight

That was an interesting story on the Mt props. About 10 years ago a brand new Super Decathlon [180hp] was in landing mode [touch down] when the pilot [who I know very well and believe his list of events ] said it felt a giant hand had picked up the aircraft and was swinging it around . He lost cont...

Re: Basic empty weight

Joe, are you certain it was an MT prop with the lag screw problem… not an Aeromatic..? I ran into a similar problem with NTSB on another accident in which a 172 crashed in a canyon. NTSB blamed the problem partially on the fuel selector valve (same type as the 170B) which had the O-ring and the bal...

Re: Basic empty weight

Mine on 8.50's is 1420. On 29's it's 1444. Lyc O-360 Avcon conversion, MT prop. 175 wings, sportsman cuff, AK bushwheels tailwheel. Def some pounds added on, I think the sportsman kit is 20# This is interesting to me. I have the same engine conversion (170A model), Hartzell prop, standard wings and...

Main gear replacement

Several years ago I came across a great step-by-step article on replacing main gear legs somewhere in these forums with some great tips. I even printed it out but can't seem to find it. I've done searches here, but cannot find the one I'm looking for. Does anyone out there recall it?

TIA,
Joe

Re: Purchase STC SA7441SW

No sweat George, I was just curious. I too wonder why this would be required for a change in oil temperature limits. I thought maybe you found some obscure Continental Service Bulletin that talked about this but I haven’t found such a bulletin. I was also looking for the replacement dipstick part n...

Floorboard-in.jpg Thank you Joe ! I really appreciate this info and the photos! I have a factory camera port and viewing port in my plane. Right now they’re covered with aluminum covers. Re: Camera Port

Gimbal-in-plane.jpg Hello I wanted to see if anyone with a camera port (that they have used or are using for photography) would be willing to share some photos of their setup, I've searched all over the internet for images with no luck. Re: 0300A - inspecting lifters?

Several “pre-buy” inspectors have advocated using a borescope thru the aft sump-drain as a method of viewing the cam lobes. Using the cam-guard or Shell Multi-wt or “plus” oils should not have any adverse effect on the pull-starter clutch…because that clutch works on a principle of rollers becoming...

Re: 1948 170

Hi, I hope this is the correct place to ask some questions. I have been away from flying of a number of years and recently purchased a 1948 170 that has been sitting for 25+ years. My intention is to restore the plane into flying condition and to return to flying myself. That being said my question...
