Re: $100 Hamburger NORTHWEST (WA,OR,ID,WY,MT)
Last weekend I flew to Hood River (4S2) and visited the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum - http://www.waaamuseum.org. I was pleasantly surprised as I didn’t expect to see such a large collection of beautiful aircraft and autos. I would guess the majority of the aircraft were from ...

Re: Aircraft Data Plate requirements (moved from Mx Library)
My A&P printed the information in black ink onto a clear sticker that is about 3x3" or just a little larger. The sticker was then placed just under the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer. The net result is what looks like perfect black letters printed on polished aluminum. You don’...

Re: In the air on the ground flying a 170!
I have four flying stories from my last four weekends: The first weekend I took a 14 year old boy up for his birthday along with two of his friends. Two of the fathers came by to take pictures. We had fun flying over their school and taking turns letting everyone fly. A birthday I’m sure he will n...

The Tillamook Air Museum has as 50s style burger joint attached to the Museum. I though the food was actually pretty good considering they are catering to a captive audience. The museum is what makes visiting the airport (KTMK) worthwhile. You can actually taxi down a short access road and park in f...

Re: ALUMINUM CARE & MAINTENANCE (POLISHING)
I acquired my 170 from my dad as well - I traded a Harley and some cash. He polished it yearly although due to keeping it outside (in Washington State) it was not as shinny as it could be. I have continued to polish it yearly although due to keeping it inside it has become shiner each year. I also u...

Re: Bicycles in a 170
After listening to everyone’s advice and playing around in the hangar, I’ve decided my best option is to remove the rear seat and go with full size bikes. My wife has no desire to learn to ride on a unicycle :? and it is hard to justify purchasing folding bikes when our current bikes slide right...

Re: Maintenance Costs
I just added up my cost to fly last year (hangar rent, annual, repairs, insurance) and assuming I fly 70 hours this year I’m looking at around $100 per hour. That does not include fuel or reserves. I can rent a 172 for $99 per hour or a J-5A Cub for $85 per hour at my local airport and that includ...

Re: Bicycles in a 170
Thanks everyone for giving me your two cents – this is a great resource. I had not thought about putting bikes on top of the seat with the back rest folded down. I will give that a try. My wife and I have camped once out of the 170 and are thinking about going this weekend although I have a feelin...

Bicycles in a 170
I discovered over the summer that my lovely wife, who does not really like airplanes or flying, enjoys traveling via the 170. She says she feels like a “bug stuck in the sky†but at the same time finds flying much less stressful than driving. Since making this discovery, I have been trying to pl...

Re: Anyone tinkering with HHO Fuel?
My uncle has been experimenting with a similar system. He has been running it on his light truck and has seen a 5-10 mpg increase. He just installed a second unit on his wife's car but I have not heard if it is helping. I have not spoken with him for about a month or so. I'll check with him and post...

Re: $100 Hamburger NORTHWEST (WA,OR,ID,WY,MT)
My wife and I flew into Pacific City (KPFC) this past weekend and had dinner at the Mexican restaurant that is one block east of the airport. It was not fancy but the food was great. The airport is in the center of the city so I’m sure there are other restaurants. This is a perfect stop for a 170 ...

Re: Landing gear dimensions
I’m not sure what my measurements are but I have a 170A parked at Twin Oaks. I’d be happy to fly over and let you look at my legs. I’m sure my 170 has had its share of hard landings both before and after I acquired it so it may not be much help.

Re: Wing Flaps (Gusty Conditions)?
Yet another advantage of the A model. I learned to fly in my 170A and was taught by my instructor (an old 170B pilot) to use two notches of flaps regardless. In his opinion it makes no difference when flying an A model. I have since learned to use the additional notches.

Re: installing bas shoulder harnesses
As part of my annual this year I asked my A&P to install a set of shoulder harnesses. He recommended the BSA harnesses which was what I was thinking of. I stopped by the airport last night and he has the harnesses installed. They look great! He went with the standard buckles. The annual is still...
