Re: Give one of our own some support
Duane called me sometime back to say this was what he and Pauline were doing this summer, and consequently wouldn’t be attending the 170 Convention. I can’t say I’m not a little jealous! It’s coming up on 20 years since Karen and I took ‘98C up there. Did Duane and Pauline arrive by 170, or did they...

I figured that anyone who would fly across the Bay of Fundy would fly anywhere.c170b53 wrote:I’m not sure I have sufficient confidence to do the trip now Miles.
I’ve been as close as Fort Nelson, on the way home from Anchorage.

Re: 2023 Midnight Sun Fly In
Site of the 1983 170 Convention. I’d had my 170 only a year at that time and just didn’t have the confidence then to take on a trip like that.

I’ve never seen anything lower than 80, but my Dad’s Stearman was placarded for “73 Octane or Higher”.IA DPE wrote:I was unaware there was once a 73 Octane Aviation Fuel.
Interesting also that 80 Octane Aviation Fuel didn’t contain Lead. That gives me more comfort to use MOGAS.

Yours is blacker than mine, and has that fancy roof.4583C wrote:My new to me tug and airport runabout. Figured I’d better get black to keep up with Miles.

It was Dayton, Ohio. I’ve been updating this map for YEARS and you’re the first who has been observant enough to notice the error.sfarringer wrote:#3 on the map list says Dayton, Colorado.
But the dot on the map sure looks like it is more likely to have been Dayton, Ohio!

Looking forward to meeting you too Paul! Based on the address on your registration we probably have some mutual friends.

I’d bet that Del Lehmann knows the answer to this one right off the top of his head, and is usually forthcoming with advice when Association members ask.

Re: Wings not even at rest
Thanks for all the responses. Years ago the airplane had a wing replacement, so I'm now thinking it may be at the strut. There is no adjustment at the strut. You have the correct strut or you don't. You have a B model and therefor you need any B model strut and perhaps even early 172s might be the ...

I don't have the PPonk kit installed but Mountain Airframe was able to correct a 6-inch wing-low condition on my B-model with AN washers under the gear attach bolt.

Re: 2023 Cessna 170 Convention, Sault Ste. Marie Michigan
Every time I look at a calendar, it seems it’s a month closer to Convention time! So far I’ve received Convention registrations from only about half of the people registered at the hotel. Just a reminder that the registration fee goes up $25 on June 1. Also, space on the Pictured Rocks and Soo Locks...

I just got a call from Jay Baeten offering his home strip as a staging area for 170s going into Oshkosh after the convention. His strip isn’t on the chart but is in aviation databases as 9WS2 . It’s about 35 miles northeast of KOSH, located about 8 miles south of KGRB, about a mile west of the GRB ...

For anyone wanting to rent a car for the convention, Damon at Soo Line Limo in Kinross, 906-0635-0427, http://www.soolinelimo.com, has a few Buick Encore SUVs for $77/day. July is peak season so early reservations are necessary and the rates are high but $50/day less than Enterprise. Damon will eit...
