Re: Brakes,I need a break
Try disconnecting the brake plunger from the pedals, it’s just a cotter pin removal and slide the rod out of the clevis. Then try to pump fluid up from the bottom of the brake caliper bleeder. Open the bleeder 1/2-1 turn then pump. If everything is right in the master cylinders, it should pump thru ...

Maybe that is an adjuster knob at the bottom center in the picture? Just a guess.

Re: Airform baffles installation questions
Personally I doubt it's worth the effort to switch from the doghouse plenum style baffling. That being said, if one were looking for "acceptable data" for a field approval to use the existing cowl together with the '53 and later style baffling, the L-19 might be an example to show that th...

Re: Airform baffles installation questions
1951 C170A cowl fitment using Airforms baffles. In the last picture, it can be seen that in years past, attempts have been made to relieve the upper cowl stringers to keep them from bearing down onto and wearing grooves into the airbox center section due to “cowl sag”. All of those attempts have fai...

Re: Airform baffles installation questions
John Briggs’ new baffles don’t look right at all, Airforms has done better in the past. Some better pictures would help identify the problems. The picture is my Airforms baffles. They used my original baffles to make their patterns but something has changed. D651CD5A-6EC4-4C7B-8A83-FFBF1A73BA8A.jpeg

Re: Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
Bruce I was posting the crush washer table for general interest, not as approved data for this application. That said, there are lots of applications that do not have torque values and every time I have checked this table against specified torque values using a torque wrench, both values have been v...

Re: Melting Ice
I would not use any ice melt chemicals around an airplane. My suggestion would be a propane radiant heater. The heat is localized and can be directed where needed. They come in any number of sizes depending on the size of the job.

Re: Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
Torque table for any size copper or aluminum crush gasket. The thread pitch and angle of turn determines the proper amount of crush independent of actual torque required.

Yes, but still a good investment considering how the value of these airplanes is climbing.

Re: Does anyone have an EI FP5L fuel computer?
I have a FP-5L fuel flow computer but I haven't ever tried to input tenths of a gallon. I always fill the tanks so 37gal is the number I always use. Other than that, I am totally satisfied with the operation. Once calibrated correctly, it consistently agrees with the gas pumps I use. The moving map ...

Re: Exhaust stack too short?
I use WashWaxAll Belly Cleaner. It works fast and won’t hurt the paint since you don’t have to scrub it, just wipe with a microfiber towel.

Re: Exhaust stack too short?
Longer tailpipes don’t equal cleaner cowl. I use Aero Cosmetics' Belly Wash, now called Belly Cleaner on the exhaust stains. It literally melts the stains off and will not damage the paint.

Re: Outer Windshield Center Strip
Doug- My 170 had a one-piece T-shaped top strap that overlapped the straight windshield strap and attached to the top windshield strap screw and front and back side of the spar carry-thru hat channel. No hidden rivets or spot welds. That was all removed as well as the ADF sense antenna mast support ...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
Richard, That is beautiful work. Did you use the original exhaust / mufflers or a new exhaust system? . did you get the pipes from Doug Mueller ? Merry after and Happy New Years to ya. :!: JP JP- These tailpipes were from the initial run that Doug had made. I have had them on the shelf for several ...
