Re: Aft Tail Skin Fabrication

Thanks Tom and Jim. I recall that website now - love opening it and seeing that couple in a roll of aluminum. I actually have the tailwheel bracket being repaired. I won't be upgrading to the B-model; not now anyway. I find myself straddling between "repair" and "restoration". Of...

Re: Aft Tail Skin Fabrication

Jim, if Cessna charges as much as Skywagon City ($921), then I WILL HAVE TO make it myself, no matter what. I got hold of Jim Musgrove today - I'm lucky to have him so close by. He had to rebuild the same piece himself, plus the next bulkhead up. He's been pretty busy lately, but I'll gladly wait to...

Re: Aft Tail Skin Fabrication

Ryan, I was able to find a new part for the bulkhead. I will draw the part in ACAD, but later. Yes Jim, my question revolves around how to form the skin of the last station, once i have the panel cut out. One end's radius is larger than the other. It's not a simple bend, like a leading edge, for exa...

Aft Tail Skin Fabrication

I found a new bulkhead that is on its way from Corvalis, OR. I riveted the door post bracket in today, except for a few - a very enriching experience and hope to get the wing back on this week. All that is left now is copying the far aft tailskin that was cracked on each side right at the top line o...

Re: Gold Bushing

Bruce, thank you for the offer to craft a new one. I was looking for a fellow here in Auburn who is a machinist by trade and who owns a 190, 170, a 185 and various goodies stored in his hangar, like a pristine 80's Porsche 911, a mint 70's Landcruiser, countless classic motorcycles...you name it. An...

Gold Bushing

I have found another part worth more than its weight in Gold - 0442129-1 Bushing Tailwheel Attachment. It lists at $184, but it can be mine for a sweet $138! Mine became married to the bolt that attaches the leaf spring to the tailwheel bracket. Inseparable, they are. I've tried every trick in the b...

Re: So close, so close and yet so far...

Thanks Bruce. I am actually working on reproducing the unit in Autocad. Hopefully no one will notice that i am not working on floor plans. If so, i will simply say it's a custom beam seat pocket. I will share the results with the team.

Thank you, Doug! I'll keep looking around for a ready-made and definitely get back to you if I don't find one.

Re: So close, so close and yet so far...

I removed the aft bulkhead today and was searching for replacement parts. The part number of course is 0512108-3. I remember seeing a posting about someone whose mechanic supposedly fabricated a new one and I believe someone said it was next to impossible, due to the continuous tight radius at the b...

Re: Scintilla (Bendix) SF6LN-12 manual

Ok, thanks. I have the two from the "new" engine that are currently just sitting around. I'll look into them and see if they need anything. It's nice to know I can find replacement parts, if needed.

Split Topic from Scintilla (Bendix) SF6LN-12 manual

Bruce, are parts available for these, like through Spruce? I took a quick look, but it seemed they only carry newer model parts....

Re: So close, so close and yet so far...

Just an update.... I pulled the wing on Friday. We knew before taking the plane apart that the front right bulkhead bracket was corroded (had a blister 1cmx1.5cm). It was removed to see if it was infecting the spar carry through. Luckily, the spar looks great, inside and out. Now I just have to repl...

Re: So close, so close and yet so far...

Even if I could pay for a new Cessna, and despite all of my complaining, I'd still buy a classic 170 180/ 195. There's no comparison.

Re: So close, so close and yet so far...

Well, I think I am completely beyond the point of no return. Jack Nicholson tried going against the grain in "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest", ended up getting a lobotomy and lived happily ever after. I removed my headliner (good idea, it was stuffed with HOUSE insulation, soaking up Puget...
