Re: Wish I woulda ...

Gareth Looking at your pictures of the seat restrain system and the next picture of the floor. The belt buckle was attached, in all likely hood, to that hole to the right of the inspection hole. In my aircraft this is a nut plate for an AN-3 bolt. It's not much, looks wonky, but I find it very effe...

Re: Wish I woulda ...

The doubled layered aluminium coated foam is very good but it comes in different grades. We have that foam in our shop but it also has a layer of heavy material in the core for extra absorption of sound . However when removing the old “wool” insulation use a dust mask and check for corrosion where ...

Re: Wish I woulda ...

Hi Kevin, Is this thing what you mean? This was installed but NOT attached anywhere which I'm thinking made it marginally less useful! Seat Secondary Attachment.jpg The rails were replaced some years ago and look like the C172 ones in the school planes I've been flying. Pilot Side Seat Rail.jpg I'm ...

Re: Wish I woulda ...

Thanks all ... This is really helpful. - Cabin Heat - I'm going to fabricate the parts and install this. Anyone got a 337 or STC or even photos of this in a 170 ragwing (or even an A)? - "One-piece" windscreen - someone did this already, phew! - and maybe a V brace - The Atlee Dodge stuff ...

Re: Wish I woulda ...

Gareth, what is your goal? How will you use the 170? The early 170s, up to at least '52 did not have good heat. I don't know how cold it gets in Ireland but adding heat ducts similar to the '54 is a good idea unless you live in a hot dessert. Hey Bruce, Purpose: Pure runabout for me, my brother and...

Re: Wish I woulda ...

Gareth, I think one modification we can all agree on is shoulder harnesses. Does you plane already have them? If not, lots written about installing them here. This is one mod where you don't want to say "wish I woulda" after an accident. Hey Gary, Shoulder harnesses were installed at some...

Wish I woulda ...

Hi all, I have my 48 ragwing opened up, wings off, interior out, engine off, panel coming out. Looking back on the upgrades, mods and changes you made or wish you had, I would love to hear suggestions for what I should do while she is in this state. Note: The aircraft is in Ireland and will be on a ...

Re: the whereabouts of 3832V

Hey John,

I've only started getting properly into her paperwork. She's had two O-300s to date a -A and a -D. I haven't seen anything in the STCs etc. regarding the blisters: they're actually on both sides. I'll keep an eye out in the paperwork.

Re: the whereabouts of 3832V

I know this thread is long dead. However, I have part of 3832V in Dublin (Ireland). Some of her empennage will be grafted onto 4180V, who took a knock in Florida thanks to a ground loop and an airport sign! She came out of her shipping container today and the project will begin on Saturday as her in...

Re: The first C170 in Ireland - ever!

I didn't know Anthony. It is a small av world around here. However, I've only recently joined it. Most everyone I've met so far has been through National Flight Centre at Weston (EIWT). I've started meeting more though this project. I have noticed an above average ability in the community to spend t...

Re: The first C170 in Ireland - ever!

Hi Kevin, That's a nice thought! If the aircraft were for international commercial aviation and especially if it were owned by a foreign company, then there would be all sorts of tax exemptions. In Ireland anything that's for domestic use is taxed every which way they can imagine. I've set up a comp...

The first C170 in Ireland - ever!

Barnstormers has a lot to answer for! I'm 3/4 of the way through getting my PPL and was considering a kit build. I was looking hard at the Zenith CH750 and then almost settled on a Bearhawk and then ... barnstormers intervened. N4180V - 1948 C170 - went in a shipping container in Huntsville, TX yest...
