LED landing light question??
Hey guys I came across this web site and wanted to throw it out to the legal experts!! https://www.aero-lites.com I would consider replacing my GE light bulbs with these drop in LED replacements as a minor alteration, and as such just note it in the logbook and that's it. No 337 or "field appro...

Re: Which headset ?
I love the Lightspeed Sierra, that is the budget ANR from LS. It has the Bluetooth for music and phone now. I traded in old David Clark and got it for $450 dollars. I think they changed the trade in value from $200 to $150 now though. I liked the sierra so much I have 4 of them now. I only fly my 17...

Re: Latch return spring ...
Google "Cessna 170 door spring" and scroll down to the link on the Cessna 120/140 forum. There is a guy out in CA that will make you some. I used him about 6 months ago and they fit like a charm if it's the one you need. They are pricey. I think I paid $60 or so for 2 of them. Hope this he...

Re: Oil preferance !
I was running Phillips 20 50 since I bought my plane 3 years ago. I just switched to Phillips 100AW and have noticed a big difference on what I call blow by. The belly of my plane would always have oil on the belly after every flight. Now after switching have significantly less oil on the belly. I l...

Re: Garmin G5 STC'd for Certified Aircraft
Just got back from sun n fun and talked to Garmin about the gtx 345 ads b transponder and the G5. The only way the HSI is certified is, it has to be a separate unit. So you have to buy one for attitude and one for a HSI. He said there was no hope for a all in one STC anytime soon because the FAA and...

Re: Speed Calculation
The way I read you last post, I assumed you were implying hitting trees at a full stall and hoping for the best. I was just offering another way to approach a really bad situation. Sound like we are both sort of on the same band wagon with the difference being I dont think slower is Always better. T...

Re: Speed Calculation
If I was going to puch through trees in rough country, having a little more volocity to sheer my wings might be a better option than dropping straight down 50 feet. No right answer here just good stuff to think about. Luckily our o 300 engines and great. Hitting the trees at 30 and dropping straight...

Re: Speed Calculation
Aryana, I see your point on emergency landings. I too see a football field or what ever and think I could put it in the slot if I needed too. I guess it depends on where you fly at. Around my area, there are tons of farm fields, airports, and sandy beaches I would look too first. I have lost a engin...

Re: Speed Calculation
My 170b has a Horton stall kit, no vg's and to get back to Ryan's question I ask why. So I can land in a very short distance with the stall kit, but I never do. Why you may ask. Because, what good does it do me to be able to land in 200' if I need 6 or 700' to take off. My 170 is limited by its litt...

South FL has its perks for sure!! Summers are really hot in the middle of the state but with a ocean breeze Stuart isn't bad at all. In fact the Atlanta summers were way hotter than Stuart. Hope it warms up for you soon.

Fishdoc, that is one BEAST of a 170B. I think that your bird looks great. I love that 3 bladed prop. One day I might swap my o 300 out for move power and better cruise performance. My B already has the 175 wings so l already have half the hardware to take advantage of more power. Anyway great plane.

Re: Correct air pressure Tail Wheel
I have been running My Scott at 45 psi on both grass and pavement for the last 3 years with good results. I check the pressure every couple months and always inflate to 45. I do mostly wheel landings. I run my main 7 inch tires at 24 psi and seems to work very well. Just my experience so far.

Re: Gascolator Problem
I just replaced my quick drain last month with a new one because mine was leaking. My only thought is the one you borrowed might be bad too. When you get the new one buy some silicon thread lube to put on the threads and tighten down. My new one fixed my problem, the gascolator not filling up is a n...
