The "H" stands for hydraulic crankshaft and crankcase. A dampened crankshaft is denoted by a letter "D" within the engine serial number.

Rope trick

It's a good idea when doing this trick to remember a few things. 1) Manila, cotton, or nylon rope is less likely to contain damaging trash to introduce into your cylinder or damage a piston, etc., especially if new rope. 2) When bringing the piston up against the valve, be gentle. You don't want to ...

radio wants

I think it's necessary in airplanes like 170's to conserve valuable panel-space so that's what I have uppermost in my mind when I think about radios. Therefore I believe you should consider a Narco Nav 122 either new or used, if you want to not take up any additional space than an instrument hole. Y...

For some marvelous reason, I had quit using Marvel when I switched to car gas a few months ago!!!! George, how in the world do you figure you are ahead of me? I went to several TX fly-ins looking for you, and the only one you have showed up at was the one I did not make! Yes, Everyone noticed that ...

Aeromatic Props

Eric, look at the MX Library for a more detailed description of the Aeromatic prop and Beech Roby Props. In answer to your question regarding the "H" engine, I believe it's going to be another case of coincidence. The Aeromatic does not use hydraulics whatsoever, but the -2H engine may hav...

Re: Keeping Up with the Crawdads

The smilies were caught while in west Louisiana this last weekend. I think the hotel didn't use bleach in the linen-laundry. Rumor has it that FlyGuy has a whole stockade of them he's intending on unleashing. I sure wish I coulda been there. I ain't had no good "poo-bo'ahs" in a long time...

Like a few of your other claims, that one isn't gonna fly either Joe! I got too many witnesses who saw me arrive in Looeasyanna Friday nite and stay overnight and have breakfast Saturday morning. My airplane is pretty fast (as you know) but not that fast to get to GPM and back in time for breakfast!...

Re: Keeping Up

I know that George, I simply meant that there are tons of posts already. Any moron could see that the new posts are with little tan or orange or whatever they are indications. As I said, it's easy to navigate. Bryan (the smilies are a bit dippy though) heh. The smilies were caught while in west Lou...

Fly guy, ...now you've gone and done it! Actually, you didn't see me pullin' 'em out. It was your good friend  Ron Massicot who pulled 'em out for me. But I did pull the last one out. Your ground is the hardest I've ever pounded a tie-down into, and they still came up with only a lit...

removing glue/foam

If I were you, I'd want to beat up the nut that glued carpet down. MEK or some other solvent will remove the zinc chromate primer. Alcohol might work. Have a fire extinguisher handy. (You can't see alcohol-fed flames so be careful.) Do it outside the hangar. Even if you have to touch up the primer, ...
