Re: 170B float drawings

Hi George, The comment that float kit drawing do not exist seems rather strange. I recall quite some time ago sending you a copy of the float kit drawing that I had purchased from cessna when I did my install. They were for my 55 170B sn 26509 but would work for any B model. You may still have a cop...

Re: Recently declassified pictures of the Atomic Bomb

Little off the topic but back in the early 1950's we had a broken arrow incident up here in northern BC where I live. That is a very interesting story, B-36 was found on a mountain top when searching for another lost aircraft. The author of a book about the broken arrow was in town talking about his...

Re: Asking a question I should already know the answer..

Del: Was it not discussed somewhere about bolting the axels on the inside of the gear leg with smaller tires? I have never tried it but it might work. That would make it very narrow .

Re: Aluminum engine mount bushings

Yes I have the exact dimensions of these bushings. I removed them from a cessna 180 when the engine mount was off for inspection. It is on my list of things to machine. unfortunately that paper is @ my hangar and will take a day or two to get if you are interested. The urethane bushings also caught ...

Re: Hangar door lift cable replacement

If it is possible I would replace cable with lift straps. the hangar door people offer the conversion kit at a reasonable cost. much stronger, simple to spool the strap, and will
last for a long time. :)

Re: Flap Cable Length/Installation

Seth, I happen to have the old flap cables for my 55 sn 26509 I don't know about the part numbers but I changed out all the cables at the same time. they were from McFarland. I can look in the hanger for them if you need them. Seems the change out was quite simple at the time. The splice is at the d...

Re: Rear Seat Removal

I don't have my parts book handy but in the back of it I am sure that there is a reference to placing or rigging for stretcher which would mean that seats would have to be removed. Just an observation to ponder, and not sure what the correct proceedure would be :?:

Re: Rear Seat Removal

My Javelin tank has more input on the weight and balance than the removal or replacement of that none used rear seat that I have . You can see where I am going with this.Would I need a signature at every fillup? 8O Keeping it in the envelope of W&B with whatever you may or may not have inside wo...

Re: Rear Seat Removal

In my case they would only be half huffy as I only have one half of my rear seat installed, darn if I only can remember where I put the other half. It is one of the best bootlegged mods I have ever done. the ease of removal is great, because the old bench seat sits in the hanger permently where...

Re: most common 180ph upgrade?

The Doyn 180 hp STC on my 170-B has the one piece air box. Buddy a couple of miles over has the Avcon STC with the scat hose connection to carb. I have never noticed any problems with either if in good repair. A leg attached would be a definate improvement on my Doyn STC. Thanks for that info. :D Bill

Re: Hemingway Air incident Africa

Having been under a Lancaster with it's bomb bay doors open, I marvelled at the size of the cavity. The pilot said " well she carried her own weight in bombs". I'm not sure that was the case with the B-29. I also noticed that all the crew locations where small and cramped in the Lancaster....

Re: Avcon Conversion 180HP & CS Prop

Hi Dwyer, I have this particular Doyn STC for my 55 170b. I also have some paper work regarding SA421SE but it is all at my hangar. When I am able to get to it in a few days I will have a look.
