Re: Tailwheel and springs

For those of you using tension springs from Aircraft spruce, are you using the "light duty" or "heavy duty" springs? I purchased the light duty springs (2151 springs) and they seem to be a little too light. I know the 170's have some trouble with ground handling but these springs...

elevator control rigging

Looking through the Cessna 100 series manual, they mention an eccentric stop located at the aft of the plane for the elevator travel and an additional stop at the front. This front stop is supposed to be set to avoid pulling on the rigging after the elevator has reached full travel to avoid stretchi...

Re: Avionics

Since our poor 170's are so limited on space (unless one elects to remove the glove box) I chose to go with Garmin in my plane. I got the GMA 340 audio panel, SL30 NAV/COM, SL 40 COM, and GTX 327 TX. The SL comms are only 1.3 inches tall and the audio panel and tx aren't much more. These fit very ni...

Re: How are Generators and Alternators different?

Just so that I can be clear. I am upgrading my avionics a making a few small changes to my electrical system. I have a 50 amp Jasco alternator installed which means I can't exceed 40 amps of continuous draw on the system (80% capacity). George you said that the battery is intended to take the tempor...

Re: Rotating Beacon Removal

A little off topic but not too far, here's a frustrating situation. I currently have the Whelen wingtip/strobe setup with the incandescent bulbs. I am looking to shed some load so I contacted Whelen to see if I could purchase just replacement nav. bulbs to go to LED. Knowing their answer before I ev...

Re: Vent Tubes

I also took George's advise and got some wool from a fabric store. Didn't have to come up with a clever excuse as to what it was for since nobody asked! I used some 3M adhesive spray with tape around where I didn't want any glue and it works like a charm. No more air leaks!!! :D

Re: panel rewire

Ozman, I know what you mean, and no, I don't think it will ever end! Panel is looking good. I think I agree with you and George, I would prefer using jumpers from CB to CB as a bus for your exact reason. My IA who is going to be signing off my work likes the copper bus bar so hopefully, he will let ...

Re: panel rewire

Thanks George! IMG_0552 resize.JPG Well here is what I am working with. BPaige asked about reaming out the engine instrument holes. I was thinking I would do the same thing to fit EI instruments but it doesn't look like Hilltop170 had to. I love the classic original look of my current panel but livi...

Re: panel rewire

Hilltop170- love the picture. That is very much what I am looking to do. I tried to upload a picture of my current panel but got an "image invalid" massage (George?). Anyway, really like the 430, but couldn't find room on the panel without removing the glove box, which I would like to keep...

panel rewire

Greetings everyone. Well the time has come (sooner than I expected) after recently purchasing my 170 to replace my failing comm. Of course, as expected, this completely snowballed into totally redoing the panel with all new IFR ready radios, transponder, instruments and while I'm in there, rewiring ...

Re: L.E.D. Navigation/Strobes

I think for those stuck with limited power supply, the most effective way to reduce current demand is by reducing power required by the one of the largest consumers of all...the landing/taxi lights. I was looking into the H.I.D. lights as a way to reduce the current draw but came to a screeching hau...

Starter Troubles

Hey everyone. Just purchased a 49' A model several months back.... just love it. I'm having some problems with the starter clutch leaking. I've read several posts on this topic and some have had luck with replacing the seal while others have not. Well I decided to go ahead and rebuild the starter wi...
