Re: Heated Pitot Installation Issues?

Ryan… What COLOR are those slow airplanes..? The MX Library has the Cessna instructions for the heated pitot installation for early 172/175 aircraft which should be appropriate for 170A/B models. https://forum.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=10463 The instructions for location o...

Heated Pitot Installation Issues?

Hello all, Recently, I’ve been flying a couple of A model 170s. The first A model I flew was a 1949 that was/is essentially the same as my B model in terms of configuration, meaning pretty stock airplane, stock wing, etc. The next A model I’ve flown has been a 1951 and has been largely the same as t...

Re: Landing Gear Clunk/Lifting Plane

I’ve been a poor steward for the Association. I’ve been flying with Mark in his airplane some and recommended the gear inspection, thinking it was either a shim or a retention bolt. I suggested replacing the retention bolts just because they’re cheap anyway. The airplane is very mild mannered on the...

Re: Left the master on...

This is one of the things I just love about the piano switches. As long as they all line up, the Master is off. Sorry to hear about yours being left on Doug :? :| Except when the grommets have rotted away. That happened to me twice before. In the airline world, the nav lights stay on all the time, ...

Re: Original Cessna logbooks

I’m not quite sure how I missed this thread. Your dad test flew my airplane in March, 1952. I wish I could have met him. If you ever find yourself in North Carolina, or I ever find myself in Denver with it, you’ve got some flight time in N2256D.

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A

Brian, just caught up with your work. Looks very nice. Very interesting, the observation between painted back and clear panel laying on a painted surface. Could this be another watershed moment when the traditional thought process, that these panels where painted on the back, starts to change. Old ...

Re: First TW night landing

I love it!

I do a fair bit of night flying in my 170. It’s one of my favorite times to fly.

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A

The last N.O.S. / OEM plate/panel from Cessna was auctioned-off at the Bardstown convention and it was clear…not painted. This is the sort of puzzles/assumptions that can exist over this type discussion… just because three panels have been observed which were painted doesn’t mean Cessna did that…th...

Re: Plexiglass Panel Overlay - 170A

…. Another thing you might already know. The same panel overlay was used from 1948 to 1952 even though by 52 some of the wording on the panel was incorrect for what it was labeling. For example I recall there is a landing light extend position. But that was only applicable to '48. …. As we all know...

Original font is Century Gothic Bold. Modern font is an exact copy of the original font from the Monotype Foundry.

Looks great!

Re: Headset Reviews

I’m ashamed to admit how many Bose headsets I own, but suffice to say, my family is covered with A20s and I use the Pro Flights for my day job.

Don’t dislike Lightspeed, rather I really love their cord and their passive reduction is better than Bose, I’ve just hitched my wagon to their horse.

Re: Trim Setting for Takeoff

In my airplane I have two trim settings: climb and everything else. I prefer the slightly nose down trim setting for takeoff to train because most folks have a mental block on pushing the yoke forward on takeoff, and it also reduces the “spring” of the additional downforce on the tail keeping it dow...

Re: Airplane Storage - Outside tiedown advice request

I would do anything in my power to store an airplane in a caustic/humid environment inside. I parked my airplane outside in Venice, FL for three days and the airplane was nasty enough on the inside that I bought a box of Damp Rid to soak up the moisture. Also, my airplane sat untouched outside for a...
