Re: Flap assisted take off

Bruce I knew what you meant. George, Good discussion. To help keep stuff straight. I formatted my answers to some of your statements or questions in blue. "I agree ...when it comes to producing flying videos." I don't use techniques, because I produce videos. I produce videos that happen t...

Re: Flap assisted take off

“Subjective matters aside”as stated by George. Much of what George, Bruce and others say about techniques and POH/AFM procedures is correct if you are operating off of a smooth, consistent longer surface. I call anything over 500’ “longer.” Bruce’s statement, “Rich, there are extremely practiced pil...

Coolin, Wow, You make some unique uses and take advantage of some great capabilities in your 170. I can see you desire for an A/P much more clearly after that explanation.

Re: Autopilot, Trio Pro Pilot or Century 1

How hard is it to just trim the airplane and gently use the rudders as needed to maintain wings level and on desired heading? I though small airplanes were for flying, not managing systems. If you have an extra $15 you want to waste or just get rid of, I can send you an address and account #.

Re: First Annual Done

That engine has seen very little operation over it's last two years. Fly the hell out of it. Change oil every 25 hours and do an analysis. It just might need to be "exercised" to get it back to better compressions. 100LL or Mogas? Any fuel additives being used?

Re: When to use winterizer kit?

I have found that I can easily run the oil pan portion of the winterization kit almost 9 months of the year here in Western Washington. Of course we are cooler and wet much of the year.

Re: Bushliner fueling handles

I have used the handles. They are very helpful, especially if you use larger tires or are the "Climb on the strut" type for refueling. But most C-170's do not have the float plane lifting eyes necessary to utilize them.

Re: Call Signs

Wait, you guys talk to ATC? I avoid talking to anyone while flying to the max extent possible. If required, N4497B. If they ask for type, C-170. If they call me a 172, they get a stern and immediate correction. If uncontrolled field, initially "97B" then "Silver/Blue Cessna tailwheel....

Has anyone added an additional fuel outlet to those 175 tanks to feed from the area of the trapped fuel?

Re: Halogen landing light

John Deere LED lights are direct "bolt-in" or "screw-in." Model RE56117 is a Spot Beam that makes a good landing light. RE561116 is the Flood Beam that makes a fine taxi light. All for less than $100.

Re: Cylinder Head Temps - Cylinders 5, 6

Brian, That is completely normal for 5&6. They are right up front and the C-170 baffling didn't include the flap piece that sits along the front/bottom of the cylinders like on the C-172/O-300 installation. I typically see mid 200 degree CHTs on 5&6, while everything else is low to mid 300's...

Re: 170A uneven fuel consumption on “both”

As I have seen with many clients that I have flown with, they simply have lazy feet or haven't developed a good feel with their backside for flying slightly uncoordinated. After a couple hours, this will present exactly what you are experiencing. Make sure your T/B is actually level to the airplane....

Bill,

He is actually looking at 8.0s, not 8.5's. Don't rush the disease. It will effect him soon enough.
