Re: Introduction and question

I think another major difference in the "old days" of learning in taildraggers....and "these days" of learning... is that in the "old days" more folks learned in taildraggers on GRASS strips! Virtually all flight school ops these days are on paved runways. GRASS...mean...

Re: If money was no object ....

I can think of one problem when instaling a Lycoming IO-360 engine in a C-170 cowling, If memory serves, that engine is even wider than the Lycoming O-360. I believe it is going to require extensive cowling modification. Considerably more than the O-360. Some years ago I ran a condition inspection ...

Re: If money was no object ....

Not even in the same galaxy of knowledge as some others on here, but two things you might want to know... One of the common complaints about many 170's (in comparison to the next "level" of performance) is lack of useful load to fill four seats legally. You have an opportunity to keep your...

Re: Rudder pedal bushings

I have the original in my 170 and I regularly fly another Cessna with the newer style and quite frankly I have never noticed any difference except maybe where I put my toes, slightly. I'd use the original if it were me.

Re: Scott 32000 Doesn't rotate 360 deg should it?

As Scott hints, it seems as though (in my limited survey) many tailwheel pilots don't know their tailwheel is sick until the doc fixes it. I used to be one of them, with a Scott thAt hardly ever "caught." Find an A&p who works on tailwheel planes regularly to rebuild/service the assemb...

Re: strut step

FYI for those who might search out this thread in the future F Atlee Dodge in Anchorage sells a strut step kit as well as a boot cowl step for small Cessnas. No basis of approval comes with them.

They also sell a PMA replacement cabin step, though that isn't the subject of this thread.

Re: vortex generators versus Horton Stol kit

I'll save you the read about VGs: I. Opinion of 170 owners who don't have them on a 170 nor ever have: "They don't work, or if they do, it makes marginal difference." II. Opinion of 170 owners who currently do have them or have flown more than just a couple flights with them installed: &qu...

Re: C-170 Aiplanes With Cont.IO-360 Engines

There are folks working on a new STC for a IO-360 conversion for the 170 up here. My A&P's 170 is one of the testbed planes, being currently flown under the restricted category pending FAA action, post testing. They hope to hear something soon. I wish I had more particulars but I know there are ...

Re: Door hinge pins

3/32" stainless tig welding rod with a nice loop bent in the top works really well. Put a little grease on it and you're good to go. Actually, a few minutes ago I went and looked, and that is exactly what it is. Welding rod or something similar, with a pull loop nicely bent at the top. Perfect...

Does anyone have a part number or source for the "quick release" door hinge pins with the loop?

Looks like a capital "P" :?:

Unfortunately, it too requires an annunciator. Used/refurbished 430's look better and better these days if you have the panel space.

T Perhaps I was over prepared, or exceptionally lucky, or both -- but I feel a little disappointed that I made a trip of such magnitude with no major complications. Knock on wood, its the first of many. Don't worry, if you plan on making them in the future mother nature won't disappoint - especiall...

Re: VG installation with STOL kit

To takeoff in a “tail dragger” there are 5 thing you have to do: 1. Lift the tail up 2. Directional Control 3. More Directional Control 4. Still more Directional Control 5. Lift off We eliminated 2-3-4, the tail went up and we were airborne. Well this time of year I eliminate 1 too 8) Only 5 is...
