Re: Wing Flaps (Gusty Conditions)?

We've always laughed since the procedure for short field takeoff in the ragwing is full "flaps". And with my prop pitched as it is (super climb I call it) I don't need but maybe 600' on the big runway here in Elmira. And hilltop170 is right - you don't really need flaps! Seems I sometimes ...

Re: Ragwing Strut Fairing

My rear strut panels are attached by tinnerman nuts too. We made a reinforcing doubler when we recovered the wing to replace the old one. The tinnermans are on that doubler, which we drilled holes into for the screws.

Hope you get it flying soon!

Re: Wing Flaps (Gusty Conditions)?

...at least you guys have flaps! Seems ragwing flaps are useless except for walking into...  Not too long after I bought 81V I ran out of aileron during a crosswind landing. Asked the former owner about it and he said that sometimes happens. Anyone else have this happen with the ragwing ...

Bought my ragwing 170 in 1996 with the B engine, which was installed in the 1970s. Had to get a 337 field approved by the FAA, which will probably be hard to get now days. However, I believe the association does have copies of previous field-approved installations, but you will need to discuss this ...

wingtip strobes

Miles, Might be only the Whelen system that is STC'd for the 170 series (George?) so that takes care of meeting FAR requirement for coverage and candle strength. You can do either wingtips or wingtips plus rudder with the Whelen single power supply system. We installed the stobes during the wing rec...

Mine has clear plastic tubing on the tube where pitot tube comes out - I think it had a grommet before we covered the wings...dunno if the part manual says anything - it's not near me, it's 500 (driving) miles away. :D

Poker Runs

I was chair many years ago for our 99s chapter poker run. VFR weather only (consider crosswind limits) Could start at any of the designated airports and purchase a hand there or in advance from chapter member. 'Bout all were purchased at an airport. Gave plenty of time for the slowest participant (m...

Renwick trip

Yes, John, you stayed with us. Every time I see one of your posts, I remember your visit. Glad you enjoyed it. We are closing the FBO as I now have a professional pilot job in Elmira, NY and Mike's body is showing wear after 30 years of being an aircraft mechanic. He's going to retire from the FBO a...

Maine Aviation

There is a lot of background info as to how Maine got to this piece of legislation. Excise tax on aircraft (collected yearly by the state on ME registered aircraft) go to the town where the aircraft is based. Border airport managers were complaining that many aircraft tied down or hangared at their ...

Thanks for sharing, George!

I just got my first type (Falcon 20) there at SimuFlite - DFW the day before Thanksgiving. I was like Ron, hoping I'd get through the ride. It was a long, rough day. Definitely was giving thanks afterward!

Wicked cool!
Glad to have Ron on our side now.

When N4281V flew into the mountain in Nova Scotia it had the nosegear mod on it. They took 81V's wings and mounted them on repaired fuselage 47V - they even put the nose gear mod on that fuselage! Then it looks like someone groundlooped it and got the idea to put the third wheel back where it belong...

Darn - that would have been handy a few years ago when I recovered my wings. There were clips in both rows when we took the covering off, so we put clips in both rows when it went back on. I guess no harm with more....
