Re: Building Tailwheel Time Before Ownership

Like many others here, I did most of my primary training in a TW. It was a well-used 65hp J3, to be specific. Waynesville, OH (40I) still begins all students like they have since 1946... in either a Cub or a Champ. Only transitioned to a 150 when it was time to do radio work and VOR navigation. I fl...

Dang it! Looks like I'm too late to the conversation. I guess I ought to check the forum more frequently

Re: Flare Launcher details

No comments on this? I was hoping it would spark some amusing conversation. Any old "sticks" out there have first hand experience with these as the article describes? I know a guy that knew an IA way back that claimed to have seen a small plane with the flare launching hardware installed. ...

Flare Launcher details

So ever since the purchase of my 170B years ago, I've always been intrigued by the optional rocket flare launcher shown in the parts manual. At last year's convention in Bardstown, KY there was at least one aircraft I saw that previously had the flare launching kit installed, though the 3-hole plate...

Re: FAA Registration Information

They could save a lot of time and money if they would just require the terrorists to register with the government. Ohio is already ahead of the game here... on the annual state aircraft registration form, there is a section where the applicant must check "YES" or "NO" that he/sh...

Purchasing an air park home!!!

Our offer to purchase a home at the nearby Troy Skypark (37I) was just accepted the other night. Lots to do before we actually make the move (like selling our current home), but I am already excited beyond words at the awesome prospects ahead for our future to live with our airplane only a few feet ...

Re: Cylinder break-in tips needed

running at 75% or above. is where most overheating is done. most cylinders that do not break in correctly were over heated and the temper was taken out of the rings, which then fail to have the proper pressure to the cylinder wall. I replaced 3 sets of rings in one engine because the owner though h...

Sorry to hear. Any chance it could be weld-repaired by an overhaul shop?

Can you post a picture?

(and motorcycling on public roads is too dangerous for me to commit to being an organ-donor) Better tread lightly, George... There are a lot of dedicated motorcyclists on this forum! (myself included  ) It never ceases to amaze me that the typical reaction when I tell someone that I enj...

Old flight review article

Stumbled across this old flight review article of a 170B. May have been shared here before, but good reading nonetheless. Can't say I'd agree with all of the author's observations about performance and handling...

Re: Dreaming of an Airpark Home

When we built our house/hangar I kept the hangar seperate from the house. I had heard that insurance might be less expensive with the seperate buildings. But I did it for the work I do in the hangar is sometimes hazardous with fumes etc. Also when my owner wants to holler at me she just cant open a...
