Re: My "new" airport runabout

Ah, but you'll get more ladies in yours than in mine! I do have room for more ladies.... but I'm not sure that I'll actually get any! :D I started out saying, "a motorcycle with a sidecar would be a sweet ride around the airport". My better half made it clear that she would not be ...

Re: What's this tool?

I knew some of you would know! The prongs are a bit more pointed than the one shown from Amazon but I can see that it would do the same thing. It's cleaned up and in my tool box ready to be used. Thanks!

What's this tool?

IMG_1238.JPG
I'm going through my Dad's old tools and came across this. I first thought it was snap ring pliers but the prongs aren't positioned the way I would expect them to be. What is it?

Re: Cessna 170B fun decals

Back window of your truck :D The guy who makes these suggested that I mention that these are cut from white vinyl graphic material that is suitable for outdoor use. They will last for 5+ years on a car window. Inside, they will last forever. http://www.aircraftstickers.com/apply.htm Follow up: I de...

My "new" airport runabout

Ain't she pretty?

I just bought a Columbia Par Car for my airport runabout. Now runs to lunch, the FBO, mechanic, and restrooms, (and visits to Frank's hangar!) will be in style!

Not to mention just impressing the ladies!

Look for this beauty running around the airport Frank!

Re: IA recommendations

I'll add Kenai Aviation in Kenai to the list. Mine is there now. While primarily a part 135 operation, they are doing quite a bit of outside maintenance and are also very familiar with the 170.

Re: Changing Magneto Drop During Run-ups

I was having run-up abnormalities last spring and had a mechanic take a look at it. The culprit was the spark plugs. Despite the fact that they were not very old, all 12 failed the resistance test. New plugs made it run like it should. I wouldn't assume the plugs are good just because they were ok a...

Re: First flight report and generator problem

When I had a new (rebuilt) generator installed a few years ago it did the same thing. It spit that red stuff on the firewall for a few flights and then stopped. It has shown no signs of improper operation otherwise so I just keep flying it.

Re: Glide Ratio

I used 7/1 when I set it up in Foreflight. That's just a guess on my part but I think it is a bit on the conservative side. I vaguely recall being told that 152s had a glide ratio of about 10/1 so I used that as a starting point. After I set it in FF, I then would look at the ring on the map and com...

Re: LED landing light question??

Does the GE 4509 bulb that you are replacing have a TSO or PMA? https://www.avweb.com/blogs/insider/AVWebInsider_FAACounterSafety_203196-1.html The website mentioned doesn't say that they aren't approved for certified aircraft. It says, "in many cases...." and puts the responsibility on th...

Re: Which headset ?

I use Bose at work and Lightspeed Zulus in my 170. Both are very good at noise reduction ... the Zulu is a little cheaper. I have had to tape up the cord on one of my Lightspeeds because the insulation simply cracked. Like Richard said, I've never even heard of anybody sending DCs back for service. ...

Re: IPC pg 94 , 95 Manifold Heater

I still think it odd that the fresh air cable is pushed in for "on" and pulled out for "off"....... I was pulling mine trying to turn on fresh air until I figured out why it wasn't working the way I thought it should. ('53 B model) Also.. check your mufflers!!! I recently nearly...
