Re: Avcon fuel primer

The DelAir conversion which is pretty much the same as the AvCon uses stainless lines and they plumb into the cylinder, but I don't see why they couldn't be copper.

Sounds good, I'd like to check out your installation. That wind does make for some interesting situations.

Holy moly 8O I wish I could get a tanker full at that price, the local FBO here was at $5.86 last time I checked. Since then I've just been trying to pretend I don't notice.

Re: Low CHT's

Your temps sound typical for this setup, Im running the same engine in mine, Ive talked to a couple of other owners with these, and one of my local friends had the same conversion in his 175. The plug fouling isn't normal though, something is going on there and it probably isn't the just the CHT. T...

Ah ok, I've got the A1A motor so the counter weight would be required.

Could you elaborate on that prop? I'm running the Hartzel 76 right now.

Re: Low CHT's

My 53B with the pressure cowl was obviously designed for the O-300 and the cooling requirements for it. I have the O-360 Lycoming with an oil cooler which has too much cooling capacity, especially in winter. I personally don't care for cowl plugs as I feel they can cause hot spots. Has anyone tried...

Well if it doesn't work any better than the magnetic pickup at the east gate of our airport we wouldn't have much to worry about.

Re: Question for 180hp 170 owners or folks familiar w/AVCON

The AvCon converted C172 with an O360 Lyc failed the Peterson vapor lock test with mogas, that can be verified on his website. This setup is the same as the C170 conversion. The conversion should have an electric fuel pump for redundancy as part of the STC, and that was a requirement due to the size...

Re: Extending the flaps (or retracting) in a turn

Hmmmmm I hadn't really thought about only one flap coming down before. I tend to drop mine to the second and third notches during my base and final turns for no specific reason other than it feels right and I don't get that sudden pitch up that normally happens when straight and level. Food for thou...

Re: Battery relocation

Other than wishing that mount was a bit more rigid (not going to mess with it now that it's in there unless it needs fixing) I don't have any real complaints about the location. However, for what it's worth I would take a long look at potentially mounting a lighter battery on the firewall if I were ...

Re: VFR-IFR Questions

This was a good thread for me to read, and ironic in a way since I haven't been perusing this forum often for a long time yet my interest in getting my IFR rating brought me back here to look at what other folks have done with their panels to equip their 170s. I've been flying for a while now, and f...
