hangar icing

A few weeks ago we had the January thaw so a good time to change oil in the plane. Flew for an hour or so warming it up landed and pulled cowling and drained the oil. Warm day good for checking everything out. Let it drain overnight the next day it was warm again but so humid condensation was drippi...

Re: FL200 in a C170

Having been shot down twice in Hueys in VN I'm a little leary of helicopters as both came down due to lead poisoning of the engine and/or transmission. Lost 6 teeth in one of them.

Re: Proper name for C170?

I believe the Skyhawk name began in the early 60's and began as an optional accessory package. I've got a '63 C172 and it is not a Skyhawk. It began life as a bare bones C172. I believe it was in the late 60's or early 70's the Skyhawk name became common and the upgraded version was called Skyhawk II.

Re: Stall warning failure

Will yours work if you move the tang on the wing? Had a problem on my 172 with the electric stall buzzer. It would work on the ground when moving the tang but not in the air. Electrical contact cleaner did the job.

Re: Members 170 blown over by jet

Back in the 70's I was a USAF controller working at Kunsan, Korea. We had a C5 that had just started engines when a pickup parked behind the right wing about even with the tail at about a hundred feet back at a right angle to the engine thrust. When the C5 spooled up the engines for taxi the pickup ...

Re: Hi Oil Temp issues

I ran across this some years ago and it does explain a few things about the O300 oil system and design. Continental was opposed to external oil lines on their engines, and the "C"-series of engines was designed without them. Although an oil cooler design was produced by TCM (Continental Mo...

Re: Increase Gross Weight

O 380? I think he means the O360. If I remember correctly the STC for the weight increase also restricts the flaps to 30 degrees.
