Re: Engine Ticking?
I've got a '63 172 with the Johnson bar for flaps. When I first got this plane 15 years ago I kept hearing a ticking sound. Eventually I found it was the button in the flap handle. A little tape around the button in the end of the Johnson bar and it shut up.

Re: Oil Sump
I've got an old one that had a leak still in the hangar. Try to get a pic of it for you. What angles would you like? It is off an O300C engine if that makes any difference.

The 3A12 for the Cessna 172 says that for the Connie O300 A & B engine with the McCauley 1A170 propeller max diameter 76 inches min is 74.5 inches.

I've also got a supply I ordered when I got my plane 15 years ago. I'll see if I can find them and see what amps they are.

Where to land...
A few years back when I was getting a checkride for SES the examiner asked "If you are over the forest with no lakes or clear ground and only trees would you try to 'land' in hardwood or evergreen trees?" I answered evergreen and he didn't answer. What would you think?

Re: Damaged valve guides?
Had it happen to me a couple of years ago when I flew to Kansas. Same cylinders as yours it seems that when you have a stuck exhaust valve on the O300 it will affect the cylinder next to it. No maintenance at the airport was able to contact an old A/P who had retired years ago. I had two stuck exhau...

Re: Master Cyl. needs !
I bet you could stick your magnet down in the bilge goop below your master cylinders and pull up five FAA-approved set screws. :D Or 6 screws, 8 washers, 2 sockets, 1 phillips screwdriver, a pulley and a 3/8 wrench like when I cleaned out the bilge in my 172 right after I bought it. I wonder what s...
