In the late 50's Cessna put out a service bulletin to remove the "Y", and run heat from one muff to the carb, and the other to the cabin. This always assured heat to the carb when needed. It also resulted in poor cabin heat. I put my "Y" back in. It allows both muffs to heat the ...

Let's not confuse AGE85 or E85 with Gasohol. E85, or variations there of, will not even work in your car, unless you have a flex-fuel vehicle. Gasohol is up to 10% alcohol - gasoline will not absorb much more. If you put 50% in, 40% of it would seperate. In the other direction, you can put about 15%...

I recall, as a kid, seeing 170's with a brown stripe. There must have been a few. I do remember that when Dad bought the 170A, you could have it factory painted for a small additional fee (it seems small today, not so small in 1950!). I should look through my 170 files - maybe I can find something t...

You're right, lowNslow. Guess I misread that part. Otherwise, this may be a good deal for owning old orphen aircraft. 8)

Did anyone note that under the proposal you can't carry passengers? That is enough to stop me from considering it! As stated above, the 170 doesn't need this anyway, we have enough parts and information to keep them maintained under standard certification. I think this proposal is like the Sport Pil...

Re: Flight w engine separation

I too am suprised that a 170 or any other similar light plane could be flown and land with no engine. One might keep the nose down with some speed, but at slower speeds the elevators would lose authority and the plane would stall. Perhaps the secret is to keep the speed up and make a wheel landing. ...

Goodyear Brakes

Thanks to you also, N2865C. I just got my Univair (they are a TIC170A advertiser) catalog today. They have parts. With what they have, and with the parts I have squirreled away, I can probably keep my Goodyears for as long as I can fly. Of course one should convert to Clevelands, but like I said, I'...

Actuelly, you're right Ole Pokey. I'm just stubborn, I guess. When I run out of the parts I have, I'll probably do that.
Thanks 8)

You might try checking with places that reupholster antique cars. I had the front seats redone on my 170A, and the guy found the fabric was the same as 1950 Chevrolet. He got reproduction wool fabric and I bought 1/4 a skin of matching leather. You can't tell the new work from the old! 8)

Goodyear Brake Parts

59Charlie is finally getting worked on again after 10 years in the hanger due to problems beyond my control. In my interest in keeping it as original as possible, I still have the Goodyear brakes. These have always worked fine so long as they're maintained. Problem is, I don't know where to find par...
