Re: oldest 170 pilot ?
I used the name Vespa as a general term similar to the way we use Coke as in "what kind of Coke do you want?". In any case, both of you guys are a real inspiration. Keep up the good work! Richard, You may want to use the term....soda, or pop. Using the term Coke....you may get a response ...

Re: oldest 170 pilot ?
I talked to Oren in June at the Marion Lake Grumman fly-in just south of Big Lake, Alaska. He is still doing very well and in fact, BluEldr will appreciate this, he rode his Vespa scooter 75 miles from Anchorage and back. He rode the scooter instead of flying his 170 because the strip at Marion Lak...

Re: Cessna 170 Resale values
Personnaly I think the value of the planes we fly, is primarly based on the "Want Factor" and how much money the buyer has in his pocket and how much the wife will allow him to spend. When I bought 25A in 1970, it was very ugly and I paid 4400 for it which was about 500 too much. But I wa...

Re: Engine mount to Firewall Torque?
Gary, I liked your post! there is really no torque on the rubber mounts to the firewall. Just push out till you get a round fit after the washer. the first flight everything (in my mind ) will change....That's why I wanted to put sea plane mounts on the 55 I was working on.....It's just that the pri...

Re: Drilling PTT button hole in the yoke.
PTT switch.jpg This location works well for me. The switch was installed there by my avionics shop; apparently they were not concerned about structural integrity. Didn't see the PTT, But love that you also turned your yokes upside down....Dad and I are long legged, So years ago we also turned our y...

Re: Tools
You always have to grind them...the metal used to make the tools is poor. they will always crack at a low point. I have gone as far as to cut off a Craftsman box end and weld to the shank. Grind to fit, and wala! a new, good wrench.

Re: Baffeling Repair
Frank, I had the same trouble on my airplane when I bought it. I adjusted the baffles to where tyey were no longer touching the cylinder fins and then patched them with gum backed aluminum metal duct tape. It was supposed to be a temporary repair, but it lasted for years until I finally made new ba...

Gez George I charge 350.00 a day plus expenses, and still get no work! Should I change my listing. I can't imagine what I would say.....You know, fifth generation Il...

Re: Change the oil or not?
Andy, Fly it! The problem with old oil is...No matter what oil you use, after running several hours, You will pick up acids, from the burn, and moisture. If you haven't put any time on the oil.....just use it. You should change the oil every four months......In my opinion, no mater how many hours you...
