Re: Starter

It sure sounds like an exotic solution in search of a problem.

By the way, I don't think the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) are the ones you would need to deal with (you may mean the FAA).

Doesn't 3 inches of vacuum seem a little low?
I thought gyros were meant to have at least 4.5 inches?

Re: Fuel Flow

I have been using a JPI fuel flow since 2009, integrated into the 6 cylinder EGT/CHT system. Very accurate. Have had no problems, so can't speak for customer service.

Get the right transducer for a gravity flow system.

Re: Reached out to MT Propeller

Guess that explains why no one has it on a C170!

Seems like their business model is kind of self-limiting, but apparently they have all the business they want!

Reached out to MT Propeller

I think about going down this route occasionally.

But, I have not been willing to be the guinea pig....

I would be sorely tempted if there was a sure path to approval.

Re: Piano or safety wire

By the way, the ones that I copied in 2004 (which I believed to be original, but who really knows) were .051 diameter wire, and seemed to be tempered spring wire. I have no doubt that safety wire would work, but I would use tempered wire again if I were doing it.

Re: Piano or safety wire

I used stainless steel music wire 14 years ago.
During the recent engine overhaul, it still looked like new so back in it went.

Pretty sure I can find the coil. Let me know if I can send you a piece.

Re: Tailwheel Assy ATTACH bolts/nuts

It occurs to me that the special washers could imply that the bolt may be a special high strength bolt with a radius under the head (which requires special countersunk washer). However, I don't have any L-19 data to confirm or deny that possibility. Don't think I would increase torque unless I knew ...

Re: Aileron end rod part number

My memory tells me that the M suffix indicates that it is magnetic particle inspected (which is not a bad thing for this application).
But I don't have a written reference right now to back my memory up......

Re: Outboard landing gear bracket

My recollection is that he did not believe that he had a sufficient basis of approval for the modification of splicing the floor panel. We thought removing some of the belly band rivets was easier than removing the entire floor.

And yes, the fuselage was well supported!

Re: Outboard landing gear bracket

I removed enough rivets from the belly band to get it out the bottom.
PPonk verbally told me that most people remove part of the floor, and then splice the floor panel, but my mechanic with IA did not approve of that method. (I had no reason to argue with my IA!)

At least you HAVE an inspection hole at that location! ( I don't, and the lack of it has caused a number of extra trips into the tail cone!)

Re: Heating a garage or hanger

I would consider a mini-split heat pump, but it would probably be higher in initial cost than the other options you are considering. However, it would be more efficient than electric heaters, and you would get cooling/dehumidification in the summer. Some of them have quite good efficiency ratings, a...

Re: Work in Unheated Uninsulated Hanger

In all except winter, a dehumidifier is a large step toward keeping that mill from rusting up.
I run one in my shop, and one in my hangar. To me, the electricity it takes it worth it. Have to minimize the chance of rusting the lathe, vertical mill, surface grinder, or airplane.
