The important thing about the gear legs seem to be that they are aligned correctly and don't have any cracks (esp. around the axle bolts) or damage to the hardened surface. Mine has the original gear legs, goes straight (tire wear is even) and is pretty forgiving. Definately have an annual done. If ...

The "A" is much faster than the "B" because of the flat wing  :D Actually I like my A model, but if you need the flaps for short take offs and landings the B is probably much better. I tried the 2nd notch short field take off the other day and it seemed to take LONGER than ...

I have the same situation with mine as does at least one other based at my field. I had to cut a nylon bushing at an angle to act as a wedge washer. The aileron cable still touches the throttle cable when pulled full aft/up. I spoke to McFarlane (where my new throttle cable came from) and they make ...

Craig,
You're just rubbing it in aren't you? :D My 170 is a 1949 model and doesn't have some of the cool mounting stuff already installed from the factory like for the visors and shoulder harnesses. Are the factory mounts in the spar carry through or the shield?
Thanks for the info.

Hey,
Read this post on Rosen Visors. Do I understand correctly that you do not put the rivnuts into the forward spar carry through? There doesn't seem to be enough room between the spar shield and the spar to have the rivnuts in the spar shield (pn 0511130). How did you do it?
Thanks

Congratulations!! :D I would be interested in hearing some more of the details about your bird. What did you do to it in the 9 years - restoration or conversion? How did it fly? Got any pics? The other members who have been around a while probably know about your project already, but I am new. Kevin

I keep my pants on most of the time - can get in too much trouble otherwise. :D

Beautiful 170! and nice pants too.

YIKES. 8O I guess those guys don't have to worry about aligning the fuselage with the runway - just scrape a little more rubber off those tires! Cool video.

:) Thanks for all of your input. I'll sleep better tonight knowing I don't have to worry about replacing the main gear. I am replacing the tail wheel springs and have put the BRS shoulder harness kit in - put a good dent in my budget already. I guess if it'll hold four 250 pounders - my wife and I c...

Gear legs

Hello, I did a search for info on this question but .... Is it normal for the main gear legs on a 170A to sag? Mine have a concave sag if you are looking at them head-on. One post I read indicated that the older 170 and 170A legs commonly do this. Should I be concerned about it? It seems that when t...

Glad to hear everything turned out OK. Did the engine quit? I have been told that the c-145/o-300 can still keep the plane in the air on 5 cylinders in some conditions (at least long enough to land somewhere). Is your seat cushion still attached to the seat frame?

KMac, it sure brings back memories to see 22A in your avitar. I'm leaving for Idaho in the morning and will be gone until after the 4th. Probably going to camp at Moose Creek and play around from there. If anybody happens to be in the area, stop in. Joe Moilanen 4518C Joe, If you ever get to Califo...
