All things considered I think this gauge will work fine. At least I know that an indication of 235 represents about 240 degrees, my summertime, 50 weight, red-line.
My technician and the manufacturer both state these gauges are not adjustable. You get what you get...

New Oil Temp Gauge
My new Rochester gauge indicates low. A 225 degree bath indicates about 222 on the gauge and a 240 degree bath indicates about 235 on the gauge. This test was conducted in a large, well equipped metrology lab with calibrated gear and a knowledgeable technician. The results were a bit disappointing s...

Re: Cessna Seat Stop Advisory
I got the advisory also but my 170 does not have the seat stops installed. "...service kits are available to install a new design secondary seat stop for the pilot and copilot seats." "Compliance is mandatory for the for the pilot seat:... Installation shall be accomplished within the...

Re: Introductory Post, from Idaho
Welcome Joseph.
I'm a new pilot also and this group has been most helpful, friendly and encouring. A lot of our members are in route or at our annual convention in Gulf Shores, AL so responses to the forum may be spotty for the next week or so.
Again, Welcome!

Re: Tailwheel Leaf Spring Advice
Looks like the first chance I get I also will reverse my chains. JP the new set up looks nice, I cannot tell if you chamfered the bottom of the 3rd spring to prevent creating a stress riser in the main spring? Johneeb, I put a 1/64" radius on the 3rd spring. It's not much but should be enough....

Re: Tailwheel Leaf Spring Advice
Thanks Bruce. I'll flip the chains tomorrow. Got my new leaf springs installed today! I'd invert the chain links from the way you have them. The nice rounded end with fit nicely around the round spring and the flat of the chain link will hold the clip at the control end nicely together. IMG_1258.JPG...

Re: Tailwheel Leaf Spring Advice
Sounds like a fun project. For the eye bolt, Is that a stack of washers in the bag or is that one really thick washer? Don't forget that lower shackle guard when putting it all back together :) Its a stack of washers for the eye bolt. Some folks have reported running out of bolt threads when torqui...

Re: Tailwheel Leaf Spring Advice
Woo- Hoo! Got my new TW parts in yesterday. I put a 1/64' radius on the lower trailing edge of each spring to minimize fretting, sanded, cleaned and primed the springs last night. I'll paint them tonight and hopefully install them Friday (with a little help from the local mechanic).

Re: Landing Gear
I shot this video last weekend and it shows how springy the gear is on my 170A. Camera is mounted on the belly. Took off from a hard surface but made a couple landings on grass. I'm a new pilot so my landings are a mixed bag - but I am having fun!

Ok, Im feeling a little better now.DaveF wrote:Anyway, things could be worse. Nose gear is much more expensive to maintain. Shimmy dampers, shim kits, strut overhauls, and strut rechroming all cost a lot more than a few springs.
Thanks Dave!

Re: Tailwheel Steering Spring Kit
Thanks for the feedback guys. Those are the correct springs. Just curious, how much did Air Repair charge you for them? Spring Kit was $86.22 if you can believe that. The 1/4" U bolt was $38.50. Replacing the steering springs, leaf springs, new eyebolt and most of the hardware will total North ...
