Well, those gotta be good! Look like you could fly IFR with them.

Very interesting - thanks for sharing. Interesting that in the first one she looks very serious and almost detached. In the second she's smiling and looks like she's really enjoying the flight.

Re: Cigarette lighter stud socket

Good old J.C. Whitney has the whole thing. Check their FAA/PMA section.

Don't forget to have a fuse or breaker in the line - that's why they were disconnected so many moons ago.

Re: Correct air pressure Tail Wheel

The problem I find is, that with the small volume of the tire, every time it is checked it has dropped off a few psi. I use a foot pump with a build in pressure gauge, and pump up to about 45. Then I try to remove the air chuck quickly to lose as little air as possible. Then it "looks about rig...

Beat me too! I like teflon tape to seal threads. Just don't get it inside as particles can float around and possibly cause carburetor problems.

Re: Grand Motor Inn in Deming

Just booked our room. Used their number for block rooms 575 546-2632. I didn't (should have) ask how many more rooms are available. If you go on the regular booking site, it says nothing is available for that week, so the 170 Assoc. rooms must be considered reserved.

Re: Tail wheel Tire / Tube

I use McCreary tires and tubes. As said, the correct size for the 3200 is 280-250-4 4-ply. Considering the damage that could be done if a tire blows at touch down, I think good tires are worth it. I do keep a spare tire and tube in the baggage compartment, as tail wheel tires are hard to find at mos...

Re: Yet another new guy

I welcome you too, Jim. You'll find a great bunch of people here, and, as you have seen, lots of help. The conventions are great. Hope to meet you in Deming in July. Come on along, even if the 170 isn't in the air yet.

That "copper" safety wire is probably brass. I still have my Dad's spool in my hanger toolbox. I use the stainless steel stuff now, but nothing wrong with the brass.

Re: Seems performance is worse after prop repitch.

Sounds strange. You should know the static RPM and the RPM you are climbing at. Kind of hard to do, I know, as it's hard to control everything. My 170A has a McCauley 51 in. pitch, which was the standard climb prop of the day. So, your 54 in. pitch isn't really that flat. Of course, the shape and ai...

Re: Spin Training — Seeking Advice

The 170 is approved for spins in the utility category but not the Normal category. From the flight manual 1. The following maneuvers are approved for operation in the Utility Category only, with recommended entry speeds shown: Chandelle - 115 MPH. Steep Turn - 115 MPH. Lazy Eight - 115 MPH. All Sta...

Re: Drain Engine oil

As an engineer, I can tell you that draining the oil hot is more effective. As said, at least some of the crud is suspended in the oil. I always pull the screens for inspection and cleaning. I'd rather find any metal early on before it's done more damage. Of course, if you have a filter, that should...
