Re: Keeping a Plane Outside???

...then sit down for a minute ... I often do the same thing - outside. Cinch the lines, adjust the covers, lock the doors, do that "post-flight" inspection, open a Porter, plant my posterior on the port side tire, look out over the Appalachians, and enjoy the sunset. I've found that the f...

Re: Keeping a Plane Outside???

Insurance: I think it's a little higher, but don't really have hard numbers on this. I'm told that the location/type of airport can impact the insurance premiums. Covers: I use Kennon covers and this year have employed thier "Lift Spoilers". I'm on the East Coast, not too far from Bruce. W...

Re: Insurance quotes

I was with Phoenix some time ago. Very easy with which to work and, at that time, the least expensive. Went through Falcon Insurance.

Gene Atkins Hill was published in Guns & Ammo and Sports Afield as a freelance writer. He became a permanent fixture as a columnist for Field & Stream sometime in the 70's. His column was called "Hill Country". There's a dozen or more books of his out there. He died of cancer in 19...

Re: Dog lovers

Another organization can be found at http://www.pilotsnpaws.org . Joined them awhile back but haven't flown a mission. Hope to do so soon. Some of my favorite quotes from Mr. Hill: I can't imagine living in a house without a couple of dogs. If I ever got out of bed at night and didn't have to step o...

Ahhh. The good-'ol days of cheap, plastic, give-aways!
I have a paper one, much like the one in your picture, that has "Esso" on top of it. Don't remember where I picked it up. Will post a picture if'n I can figure out how...

Re: CHT guage failed

If it's illegal to install a non-TSO'd gauge in a 170, then the answer is affirmative. Conversely, if it is legal to install a non-TSO'd gauge (and associated parts) in a 170, then it would be of no concern, legally speaking. I reckon the next question is if there's any real difference in the two, a...

Re: CHT guage failed

As I recall, I was once informed that the Westach gauges with the red-tipped needles (pointers) are not TSO'd. The guages with all white needles are for certificated aircraft. Can anyone verify this?

Re: Back Seat Communication jack location

I installed the rear headphone jacks in the center of the hat shelf. I mounted them in a little plastic box (I think it came from Radio Shack) and then mounted the box to the shelf with screws from underneath. If departing the aircraft for a short time, the headsets are put on the shelf and are out ...

Re: "Wing Tent"

A wing-tent disables your airplane. Something to think about when camping in bear country. As they are attracted to foodstuffs, particularly the sweets (candy bars and the like) and that one would probably be snacking on something whilst sitting in their wing tent, bears would be attracted to the a...

Jonathan: I'm based in Gettysburg, PA and you could have a tour of my B model just about any time. Maybe make a day of it and tour G-burg. Some good restaurants there as well. I favor the Appalchian brew-pub. They have some seasonal and unique beers, ales, porters, stouts, etc. there. From the Shore...

Re: Headliner Bows ?

How about some fishing rod blanks? To buy them new would be fairly pricey, but one might find something in a yard sale cheap enough. One would want to remove the guides, of course. I would think a 4 or 5 weight flyrod would be about right. To have a symmetric taper across the cabin, cut two of them ...

Agreed. Who would ever climb out of a perfectly good helicopter!
That is, assuming there is such a thing as a "perfectly good" helicopter.

Re: Texas seceding from the union

"There is no North, no South, no East, nor West. There is only this one great undivided nation, the United States of America." - Sam Watkins, author and former confederate soldier
Unless I misunderstand (and I frequently do), this reminds me of the cosmopolite of whom O. Henry wrote...
