Re: Torque value for exhaust gasket studs
Continental SB96-7C (Torque Limits) says that the .25-28 Nut-Exhaust manifold flange with a Spirotallic gasket requires 100-110 in/lb or 8.3-9.2 ft lb. Validate this figure yourself before you decide to use it. I always wondered if this applied to the brass nuts on the O-300 exhaust, or more to the...

Re: Cost to repaint
I was quoted $15k for a C180 by a reputable shop in Oklahoma last year. Base white, two (non-touching) stripes, including strip, couple hours worth of labor for light corrosion removal, prep, and paint. I thought that was a little high.

Re: Windows 8, Windows 8, what about it we don't apprectiate
After using iPad and iPhone for several years with excellent support and service, I went to Apple as soon as Microsoft announced ending support for Windows XP. Good riddance! I will never buy Microsoft again! Ditched Windoze nearly 5 years ago for Mac. Still performs as well as it did out of the bo...

Re: Control Cables
I just had the same problem with the replacement lower flap cable being too long. So, I thought I'd pass along what I learned. I have a 1950 Cessna 170A, s/n 19519. I ordered, from McFarlane, the p/n (MC)0510105-5 as our Cessna manual shows, and got a cable 5-6 inches longer than the original. Whil...

Re: Replacing Fuses with Circuit Breakers
I would say the job is not for the beginner. It is easier to replace all the breakers at one time in the'52 and earlier airplanes. But then this becomes a real project and the cost of the breakers adds up. And then when and where do you stop. I can vouch for this. I needed to replace a fuse...decid...

SNL86-44 will give you the data for the 170 (and others). 100-series manual won't help with model-specific balance information. See thread http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... f=28&t=573

If I recall correctly, somewhere around $45 I think. That was in 2010.gahorn wrote:Nice. What did the shop charge for cutting that?

Re: 1952 and prior Floating panel drawing
Attached is the CAD file my neighbor and I came up with to have a nice floating panel cut for my 170A. This file was sent to a local shop, whom I supplied the sheet metal to, and they cut it using a water jet cutter. Every hole was absolutely perfect, no filing or enlarging needed! Also are photos o...

Took me a couple seconds to figure out what kind of crazy exhaust pipe you had on that thing!Aryana wrote:Someone in NC has them now Miles. I sold all 6 for $300. That one cylinder did look really good compared to the others.

Re: 170B Throttle Position
The only "real" important thing here is that movement of the throttle control in the cockpit achieves full and proper range of travel on the carburetor control. As in, when the throttle stops at idle, the carburetor control is against the idle stop screw. When the throttle control is max f...

Re: Replace stall warn unit?
... keep Textron happy. Perhaps I'm overstating things... I will try to stay off a soapbox, but I can tell you there is only ONE thing that keeps Textron happy: Money, and LOTS of it (hence the outrageous fee to look at a drawing). Unfortunately the new Cessna/Textron does not like airplanes, as ev...

Re: Replace stall warn unit?
Which model are you inquiring about? The B models require it, the 170 and 170A do not. I relocated mine (in an A model) under the panel so I can hear it but do not see the dim light (that I would not see anyway if I happened into an inadvertent stall).

Re: C 170B climb fuel burn chart ??
My recollection is that my fuel flow gage reads about 11 to 11.5 gph at full throttle climb at low altitude. Of course, I don't really spend much time looking at the fuel flow gage during climb......... But I'll look again next time out and see how bad my memory is........ My home field elevation i...

Re: Mystery Parts
Can't tell much from the photo, but are the springs long enough to attach to the tie-down ring? Seems like it would rub against the lower wing skin, though.
