Re: Aero Ski photos
Do you know any 170s with the field approval for the skis? I'd love to fly them on my 170B. I don't know of any. The problem is it requires a stub axle on the inside of the gear leg and they have never built one for a Cessna gear leg. The Bohlin (not sure if I spelled that right) 172 tail dragger c...

Re: Aero Ski photos
Unfortunately no. It is STC'd on the tail dragger 172 but not the 170. Go figure. I have tried to talk them into getting it STC'd but they have had really bad luck with their FSDO and don't want to fight it.

Re: Hawker sbsJ16 in 170 ??
That could be, I spoke to Burl last spring at the FedEx trade show in Anchorage and he said he got the battery box STC'd but I didn't ask if it covered the 170.

Re: Hawker sbsJ16 in 170 ??
Its been my experience that the Hawker SBS J-16 battery has been relatively easy to get field approved. The only major requirement for using a sealed battery is you must have over voltage protection in your charging circuit. F. Atlee Dodge and Burl's Aircraft both sell STC'd firewall mounted battery...

Aero Ski photos
Hey guys, I am looking for good photos of planes on Aero skis. Straight skis, wheel skis, tail ski. What ever you have, especially close ups. I am an Aero ski dealer and am in the process of building a website. These photos would be used on the website so make sure you don't mind. PM me for my email...

Re: Valdez, AK STOL contest
That was my first time competing in that. It sure was alot of fun. I'll be going back next year for sure. There was alot of talented pilots there and some amazing mods on the experimentals.

Re: Aerocet 2200 floats
The dynamic dampener adds very little weight. When you order the prop it comes with the dynamic dampener not yet attached to the spinner backing plate. It just bolts on and doesn't weigh more than a couple pounds. I just looked up the weight and balance on a plane I did recently where I removed the ...

Re: There comes a time to vigorously protest parts-prices...
As soon as they change the laws to where if someone makes a bogus law suit to try and get a free ride they not only have to pay all attorney fees on both sides but they have to pay the defendant the $$$ amount they were sueing for if they loose, then parts prices will come down. But that is not even...

Re: Does anyone run the Gar Aero tailwheel?
The Bushwheel tail wheel fork is actually quite a bit different than the Gar Aero. The geometry of it is different so it is much less prone to shimmy than the Gar Aero. I have a number of clients that have switched from the Gar Aero to the Bushwheel just for that reason. The Bushwheel fork is curved...

Re: Franklin 220 conversion for a 1948 170
I maintain a 165hp Franklin and a 220hp Franklin for a couple clients of mine and so far I have not had any trouble finding parts. The only thing I noticed was fewer vendors that have the parts. You just have to call the parts stores that specialize in Franklins. If they don't have it they know wher...

Re: Baggage Door Install
All good advise. I think the bulkhead doubler you are refering to is part of the float kit, if I am understanding your discription right. Also don't bet on just lining up the rivit holes and installing it. I have yet to find one that more than few rivits line up on. It takes a lot of measuring and f...

Re: retrofit a Float Kit on a C170B?
You will find that for all factory new parts you will be out about $3,500.00 and you will have 30-40 hours of labor into the install. You can find some parts available used and can make some of the parts yourself to save some money. I just finished installing my float kit on Monday and installed the...
