Re: Garmin G5 STC'd for Certified Aircraft

Has anyone looked at the Sandia Quattro 340? They just lowered the price. Their brochure states "TSO’d Airspeed, Attitude, Altitude and Slip" but further down it looks like those TSOs are pending final approval. Once they get final approval, wouldn't this single instrument be able to repl...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear

Aryana IMEO (In My Educated Opinion) you do not know what you are talking about. Finding an instructor that can teach properly how to do a ground loop is the problem. If the people who you describe knew how to handle a ground loop instead of fighting it they may have saved there aircraft. IMO It is ...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear

Another thing to consider is that the longer the gear legs, the more the landing gear geometry is prone to ground loop. Moving the main wheels farther forward that stock is undesirable for handling and should be done if additional prop clearance is absolutely necessary. Reply: In some cases this is...

Jim, I like your style! I bet that 172C is the nicest one in existence. Last year of the fastback, right?

Re: Potential galvanic corrosion Cleveland brakes

How do you clean and grease wheel bearings without removing those two bolts from the caliper? The parts from the pictures I posted the airplane had not flown in many years. It received new wheel bearings as well, I was able to salvage the wheels.I spent two years restoring that airplane it is now $...

Re: Potential galvanic corrosion Cleveland brakes

Picture1.jpg When the bolts are frozen such as they are in this picture a larger concern is the piston bore which as seen here is heavily pitted. Even with new O-rings this will not stop hydraulic fluid from leaking past the o-ring. The edges of the caliper is crumbling from corrosion. And if you c...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear

BUT, I have to say that IMO raising the nose of the 170 with 180 gear ruins one of the best things about the 170...the spectacular forward visibility for a taildragger while taxiing. I do not find my Sight picture over the nose deteriorated that much. I know it is lessened, however compared to the ...

Re: Marvel Mystery Oil Disrepute

"Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it." - Edmund Burke MMO was analyzed by White Laboratories in Dallas in the '60s and found to be petroleum distillate (light kero), with added dye and perfume. Last I heard, kero was jet fuel, and jet fuel in an avgas airplane is a misf...

Re: Windshield

I am leaning towards the LP windshield. As for originality. I have so many STCs incorporated that originality went out the "window" a long time ago. If Cessna has not had any problems with the windshield coming out and is similar to the LP modification, then the LP should be OK. I would a...

Re: Medical first flights of the Cessna 170A/210 and other j

Over on the Cessna Pilots Society forums a person noted that he got from the seminar that you may be able to self certify after January 2017. That is not what I understood from the seminar I attended at the AOPA Fly-in in Bremerton Washington this summer. My medical expires in April so I wrote this:...

Re: Spark Plugs

The easy way for you to know the answer to this is does it take a 3/4 inch wrench or a 7/8 wrench to undo the B-nuts on the end of the plug. 3/4 wrench = 5/8" 24 7/8 wrench = 3/4" 20 thread. It could actually be either one if someone has changed out the harness to install the 7/8 wrench = ...

Re: Medical first flights of the Cessna 170A/210 and other j

I haven't been keeping up, when does the 3rd class medical reform supposed to kick in? Essentially if the FAA does not get the job done after July 2017. Anyone who has not had a medical denied can certify by meeting the intent of the legislation that was outlined to the FAA. AOPA has a pretty good ...

Re: Medical first flights of the Cessna 170A/210 and other j

I just got my 3rd class medical Special issuance for Diabetes sent to me By the FAA in the mail last night October 25th 2016. It did not lapse at all this time around. It was due to expire on the 31st of October. It is only good until April 30th 2017 "6 months again. Which means if I want to fl...

Re: Starter Troubleshoot Guide

Bruce you and I must have been typing at the same time! There is not a published starter trouble shooting guide that I am aware of but this is a very simple system. The system has a drawing and explanation in the Teledyne continental C125, C145 and O-300 overhaul manual X30013. What you do not have ...
